New iPod touch rumors go against the grain of "holiday lineup is set"
Now this is how we like our rumors: Cheap, fast and totally unsubstantiated. Phil Schiller told Gizmodo that Apple's holiday lineup is in place, but the rumor mongers seem not to care. Last week we heard that AT&T was considering an 8GB iPhone 3GS. The latest speculation to hit is that a new iPod touch will be released before December, according to iPhone Alley. Citing a "reliable source" who couldn't go into details (mmm-hmm), iPhone Alley speculates that it could be the touch with a camera that we all expected several weeks ago.
Given that the iPod is typically updated in September and that some people have already begun holiday shopping (not us, of course), we'd be more than a bit surprised if this happened.

Well said, well said everyone. I follow the Apple company quite extensively and am just as interested in knowing when there are new products rolling out, and I personally believe that this simply is not true and go against the Apple company's style. I guess however, only time will tell. I sold my Ipod Touch 2G and am still waiting before buying the 3G. I don't want something to come out right after I buy it. That is an easy way to really upset anyone, lol.

You are saying he said "holiday lineup is in place". Get your facts straight first of all. Secondly, neither of those statements leads us to believe that the "holiday lineup" is on the shelves at this moment. His statement simply says that they know what they are offering for the holidays, not necessarily that it's already available.

Furthermore, the "lineup is set" comment wasn't an official statement that Apple made to the world at a keynote address. That would be a very different thing. Schiller made a comment, not an official Apple proclamation. The only people who even know about that comment are tech-heads like us.
There's absolutely *nothing* preventing Apple from releasing another model, if it so chooses.
Won't happen. They will release it in February like the 32GB 1st gen iPod touch. That way they get a ton of Christmas sales then get those people to upgrade.
November 11 2009 at 7:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf Apple does this, I'm going to be slightly pissed, having just bought a 64GB model. I was waiting for one with a camera but wasn't prepared to wait another year to upgrade. Don't make me regret my purchase, Schiller!

November 12 2009 at 2:04 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNo schidt. I just bought a touch last week after reading what Schiller said about no changes to the lineup. It would really tick me off if we were mislead.

Just wanted to reiterate that our source is someone who I personally trust and they wouldn't pass on fabricated stuff. Many of you probably know of the person, although they wish to remain anonymous.
Cheers!
Target's BF ad has a price drop on the 32GB iPod Touch.

November 11 2009 at 5:12 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replydoes it really bother you that much?
November 11 2009 at 5:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNo way Apple releases a new product now, after Schiller said the line up was set. That would destroy his credibility in the marketplace.
If Apple had an iPod touch with camera that was just delayed, they would have announced it with the rest, just like the quad core iMac's.
indeed. all these rumors are due to a couple of early prototypes that were likely due to Apple considering the possibility. one that they rejected in favor of positioning the touch as their answer to the whole handheld game world.
they are very likely not more real now than it was before.
AND if something was to be released as a big holiday item it is more likely to be the Tablet (ipod, game player, ebook, netbook with cell data and a camera for ichat/aim would be a killer this time of year) than just a touch with a silly little camera
Nope. Stores set their floors for holiday last night and tonight. No more changes to the lineup.
