Apple announces one-day shopping event on November 27th

"Come back to the Apple Online Store the day after Thanksgiving for a special one-day-only holiday shopping event. You'll find dozens of great iPod, iPhone, and Mac gift ideas - all with free shipping.
Mark your calendar now. And until then, start your research by browsing the Apple Online Store to find iPod, iPhone, and Mac gifts for everyone on your list."
There's no details on what's exactly going to be on sale, and this doesn't look like the questionable leaked email we saw last week stating Apple's Black Friday discounts. Apple has in the past not posted the actual sale prices until early Friday. We'll let you know when we find out what's on sale and what those discounts are.
What are your purchase plans? Let us know by leaving a comment!

Not for nothing, but I think it's somewhat out of touch for Apple to wait until the morning of Black Friday to post their deals. Obviously they don't need any sort of deals (does Apple *ever* leave the black, financially?), but most people that are serious about Black Friday will have already solidified their plans.
I do wonder if the Apple stores will be giving away anything for visitors, like the bookmark. I love when they do stuff like that.

Yeah cuz of all the deals on black friday, I would definitely wait in front of the Apple store for some free piece of crap like a bookmark...
Martin said 11:02AM on 11-23-2009
Was there a point to that?
Jordan said 11:11AM on 11-23-2009
Yes, to infer that giving away free crap is just a cheap gimmick and complete waste. That's exactly what we need, more companies giving away cheap free crap that nobody really wants and just ends up in a landfill. A bookmark? Yeah I can't make one of those out of any piece of scrap paper lying around.
There are many better deals to find and wait for on Black Friday than some cheap crap given away by Apple.

Waiting to buy my first iMac 3.06Ghz 21.5" with discrete graphics - not much of a difference in price (probably) on Black Friday, but hey it's something. I really hope I don't get a noisy screen.

Are you that ignorant? That leaked ad was such an awful fake, I am surprised it fooled anyone. But then I always overestimate the intelligence of people on the internet.

This does absolutely nothing for me. If anything, it may make matters worse by keeping everybody in suspense. It may draw up more people to the Apple store only to waste their time since Apple rarely, if ever, discounts their stuff. And free shipping? Who's not doing that these days. Nice of them to do but barely enough to impress me.
Want to impress me Apple? How about selling more Mac Pro options at your stores than what you currently do? I mean, Apple only sells the 2.66 Quad and 2.26 Octo in basic config. Why not also the 2.66 Octo and 2.93 Quad? If at least in limited quantities? Or at least doing like many brick and mortar/e-tailers do out there which is allowing one to place an order online and then picking it up at the store like the next day for free? Don't play games with us Apple!

If I remember correctly, on one of our tax-free holidays in MA, the Apple store in Cambridge was giving away free bookmarks for its customers. Yay, thanks for giving us incentive to buy from your store Apple!
I'm betting on a nano sock this year!

Seems a stretch, but... Any chance this will include replacement batteries? My '07 MBP Battery finally died the other day.

Wouldn't it be funny if their deal was a free apple with the purchase of an Apple. I mean an actual piece of fruit!

Knowing Apple's attention to detail, Steve Jobs would order the employees to take a bite from the side first.

I can't believe that Apple would have better deals than Amazon.com for it's products. The big advantage of shopping Amazon.com is zero sales tax (on top of the lowest price they can give). No sales tax is a BIG incentive when you're buying something over $1,000.00!

Apple never had any significant discounts in the past, so what's new? Why suddenly is everybody whining? "Out of touch?" Of what? Has BMW/Mercedez done a super black Friday sale, ever? Why don't people whine about that instead?

Because BMW/Mercedes has always catered to a small group of people, and in the past this has held true for Apple as well. However, Apple is now catering to a larger group of people, and with that they need to please more people - those people being the ones who expect discounts.
lancelott said 3:14PM on 11-23-2009
You are delusional if you think Apple has to "cater to a larger" group of people now. That's not how Apple does business... In fact, pika2000 has it right.
CNN.com actually had a nice article about this last week (go look it up, search for "black friday" on their page) about how Black Friday "deals" are mostly rip-offs in many ways. (limited quantities, older models, etc) Hey, if wasting a day of your life (especially a holiday) trying to nail $50 off a video game console or $100 off an old generation TV is worth it for you; then more power to you. It isn't for me.
Apple has spent the better part of the last 10 years portraying themselves as a "premium" brand. They are not going to change that now.

I didn't say they needed to. What I said is Apple is now a known brand to the group of people who expect and WANT these discounts. Maybe that's not what Apple wants, and that's one of the reasons if they do business the way they do they will always be niche. (yes i know, look at ipod and iphone, but again, gadgets are different than very expensive computers).
Apple DOES have to cater to a larger group of people. That's business. Expansion and growing. Apple can pretend they don't want it, and Apple's faithful can claim that Apple doesn't want to be big all the want, but in reality they do. How many ads have we seen trying to convince people to switch over? Yeah that's called expansion.
Maybe Black Friday is a rip off, I never said it wasn't. Apple has been trying to portray themselves as premium, and joining in on a little Black Friday fun isn't going to take that away from them. All it can do is draw in more people to use their products.
