Take your apps to the table with these iPhone icon coasters

With over 100,000 applications available, there's no shortage of ways people are using the iPhone's features. But how about on the coffee table or in the dining room?

A new website is offering sets of coasters featuring the iPhone's default application icons. According to the website, the coasters are genuine app icon enlargements from the iPhone 1.1.4 firmware. They also have a non-slip cork backing and are heat resistant. If you or someone you know is a big iPhone lover, this would be a great one to add to the holiday wish list.

iPhoneAppsCoasters.com is offering three sets including:
  • "Core Apps" featuring SMS, Calendar, Phone, Mail, Safari and iPod
  • "Home Apps" featuring Notepad, Settings, Camera, Calculator, Clock and Address Book
  • "Media Apps" featuring Maps, YouTube, Stocks, Video, Weather and Photos
The three "sets" each retail for around $19 USD. Here's some shots of the coasters:

Pretty disappointing that they have already stopped taking orders. Way to go guys. I understand you have to prepare for shipping but c'mon it's the 4th. You mean to tell me you can't handle a couple more orders? lame

These things sent the old Dork-O-Mometer off the scale!

I'd like some for my office, or to give to other geeky friends, but the GF would have my head if I brought them into the living room!

Not being able to examine them before buying, $40 seems pretty steep for an impulse buy.

@Jordan ... and only a bigger douche would give a damn. ;^)

Is anyone else wondering if the site is legit at all? I like the idea and would buy some but there is nothing to identify who these geezers are. Looks dodgy to me.

This is copyright violation 101. God forbid someone realize that an artist created the icons for Apple. Selling these things can only happen with the permission of Apple.

These are very cute, and I'm sure would be very entertaining. I don't even own an iPhone or iPod Touch but I still think these would be a very, very cool conversation starter when guests come over!

Now someone needs to create a giant iPhone coffee table for these, how about using one of the shop display models. Then fit multi-touch sensors into the front and keep the enormous screen.

That would trash Microsoft's surfaces any day!

Why not just use a whole iPhone as a coaster?

Oh wow TUAW, this is embarrassing! I feel bad, but I can't look away!

http://i.tuaw.com/?date=2008/10/01&slug=set-your-drink-on-some-iphone-icons&a=show-post&commentspage=

I mean, not only is this post old news, but it's old news of a story that you ran over a year ago! Sure this is a different company, but they're both selling old style icons for about the same price.

To TUAW bloggers: at least run a Google search before posting. This is hilarious. I mean, I understand if you wanted to point out a cool gift idea, but presenting it like it was something new is wrong. It would be better off attached to an article roundup of best gifts for an iPhone fanatic. Actually, if you haven't already done so, that sounds like a great idea. Run that story. You could even recycle several stories to make this new story, like the Blur tripod review. Let's not quit rehashing the old stories to make new ones. Let's also not quit posting about news that is a day or two old from MacRumors, AppleInsider, BGR, and 9to5mac. The days when you get a scoop are becoming few and far between.

I honestly used to love TUAW, and really I'm saying this for your own good because I want you to succeed, but you are becoming less relevant by the day when it comes to staying on top of all things Apple. Management needs to kick some butt around there!

Loves and kisses,
macduke
