Apple is delaying shipments of 27 inch iMacs
Uh oh! It looks like there's shipping delays and availability issues with 27 inch iMacs. It's reported that these delays could be due to graphics issues with the GPU. Several Apple resellers are citing shipping delays when trying to order the models.Apple made a brief statement to CNET tonight acknowledging the delays, but iMacs are showing a two week shipping delay on Apple's online store, which might mean you won't be able to purchase one in time for the holidays.
Graphics issues are nothing new to these iMac models. Some 27 inch iMacs also had issues earlier with graphic performance and Flash, which was fixed in the 10.6.2 update. The 27 inch iMac has also had a number of other reported problems before, from machines that have had broken screens, to iMacs arriving that simply don't work.

well I order my iMac 27 inch i7 on Dec 31 and guess what guys I am still waiting because the actual shipping date was the 15 of this month and guess what it push to the 29 before this article was post about a 3 week delay for some reason apple is doing something that is neither correct, or they are testing my machine before it is shipped out.

It only took 4 days to get to me from Shanghai and that's including Christmas holiday and the weekend (shipped Dec. 24th at 10:37 am local Shanghai time and arrived in SC at 9:50 am Dec. 28th!)
It definitely was AOA (alive on arrival) and looks awesome! I'm updating the software right now but so far all is very well!
Well, I must admit, I spoke too soon. Within a day or 2 after getting the iMac home and setup, it too started flickering. And at times, the screen would "skew" to where the bottom half would show up at the top and the top half at the bottom with a black bar in between (as if I was seeing part of the underscan image on a television). I called Apple and with very little questioning, they immediately issued an RMA for it and sent me a return FedEx label. My returned iMac was delivered (to Pennsylvania) today and my replacement is due to ship in 2 days. I hate this but I would prefer to have it working like it is supposed to. I just hope the new one doesn't have the same problem!
But while I had the iMac, I have to say it is one awesome machine!
any advice on my iMac issue?

I'm in the UK - you can come to your own conclusions on this:
Ordered on the 9th Dec.
Dispatched on the 12th Dec from Shanghai.
Got to Germany and experienced an Exception on the 13th Dec?
Back in Shanghai on the 15th Dec.
Sent to Korea 15th Dec.
Possible recall?
Bought a 24 inch imac... apple sold me a used computer by mistake.
They gave me a refund and I bought a 3.3 27inch and the superdrive failed in two weeks.
They then sent an i5 27 inch as a replacement. screen flickered and blacked out in the first 20 minutes.
They are "supposed" to ship a new i5 by th 22nd of Dec.
I bought the first iMac in Oct and havent had a working one since then.
They also had 2 payments of $2400 for a month due to a delay on a refund.
Any tips on what I should do to get this taken care of?
Well I went to the apple store last weekend, and grabbed a brand new shiney 27 inch iMac i5, no problems yet. Oh I also got the apple care thing too cause why not? and as a poster stated above, 250+? no try knockin that price down a hundred dollars or so...
There HAS been i think, maybe 7 times total if i were to guess, times where i saw a quick little flicker of something, a horizontal bar on the top or bottom half of the screen but it's always been an isolated little flick that didn't repeat itself or persist in any way and was barely noticeable. But hey that's why I have one company backing my purchase =) I made the switch to mac with this purchase btw and I must say, I'm in love.
Also, to answer another post above, no i don't have any pulsing when i turn brightness down to any range. Also one other thing I saw on one of these sites were people talking about dead pixels in the camera?? and to check it they cover the camera take a picture, zoom into the picture and count the spots... I have no spots whatsoever, I've checked 3 times to be sure yet they claim "You will never get one without at least a few dead pixels". Really people... let's not speak in absolutes, share your experience and be honest.
Maybe i'm just extremely lucky, or maybe it's just that the unlucky ones have the loudest voice. Who knows?
I just ordered a 27" Quad i7 2 days ago (Dec 12) and the live online chat person said that the 2 week delay is "solid" (ie, it won't become any less for any reason) and that it is due to the demand being "extremely high".
I hate hearing these other posts about problems, but I did buy Apple Care anyway. I think everytime I've used Apple Care in the past was for something non-Apple that failed (an ATI Radeon X1900 for example) so it's well worth it for that!
I just got my i7 on Friday, and it's a beast of a machine. It's unbelievably fast, and no issues so far (knock on wood). Oddly enough, the UI isn't much faster.
Ordered 11/27, shipped 12/9, arrived 12/11.
Ordered a 27 inch i7 on November 19th. Last I heard, Apple told me it *MIGHT* ship on December 21st.
I've only called a few times, but gotten no correspondence.
5-7 business days they said when I bought it...

@Mahrain.
I know people will never learn. I ordered my 24" the day they were first announced.... ...three logic boards later and all is good! Yet here I am ordered rev A of a core i7 despite all the bad vibes its getting.
I ordered my i7 on Black Friday at 11:30pm (British time). I would expect there to be a spike in orders from that, hence the delay I have been given.. ..Its not getting to me for another week yet. I know someone who ordered the same machine as me and got it around a week ago and another who is expecting on 29th. Looks like the is either no consistancy, certain geographic regions take longer or my theory of the spike in demand is correct.
