Magic Mouse doubles Apple's mouse market share

AppleInsider is reporting that in only eight weeks since its release, the Magic Mouse has helped Apple double its mouse market share. NPD Group sales data shows Apple garnered over 10% of the mouse market in November.

I can personally attest to how popular the mouse is. I ordered one from Apple's online store two weeks before Christmas. The ship time showed 2-3 days. This never changed until just a few days before Christmas when Apple changed the shipping time to "On or after January 4th". Runs to three Apple Stores and four Best Buys didn't do me any better – all were sold out of the Magic Mouse.

The NPD sales data included only standalone sales of the $69 Magic Mouse. "The figures did not include the bundled Magic Mouse that comes with each 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac.

For those keeping track, here are the top five mouse vendors in the US for November 2009:

I'm anxiously waiting for my Magic Mouse to arrive on January 4th. What about you guys and gals? Do you use one? Tell us in the comments!

I bought a new iMac in November and thus I am lucky enough to have one. I work in an Apple Store in Germany and so far we only delivered Mice to customers who ordered before december!
Demand for this is huge!

I just returned to work after a week-long Christmas break. At home I've been using my Magic Mouse exclusively. But when I sat down at my desk at work today and put my hand on my "classic" old Microsoft wired two-button laser mouse -- I immediately thought "Geez this is comfortable, my hand cups around right around it!" It just felt right -- and this is not how the Magic Mouse feels. You have to "pinch" the MM on the sides in order to drag it around and sorry Steve but it just isn't comfortable for all-day use. It is a (very) rare case where Apple's designers put showcasing technological wizardry ahead of the User Interface. Somewhere up there Jef Raskin is very disappointed.

nice mouse but it makes google maps almost unusable: just move your finger near the mouse & the maps scroll in or out like some possessed thing. also you can't scroll websites in mobile safari in the iphone simulator, admittedly an edge case that won't effect too many ...

I got one for my birthday the first of the month. I thought it was a bit 'short', but that wasn't a problem. Now if I use another PC, I get the feeling the mouse is huge!

Once I got BTT then the 'real' MM shines.

Also I absolutely love the fact that I am no longer limited as to where I place my finger(s) to scroll or click. I can't understand why some people say they have problems with their wrist. I have pretty large 'man hands' and I find the scrolling and clicking to be much easier than the old mouse.

I bought a Magic Mouse in November. It was the first thing I bought with my employee discount at Best Buy (I'm a seasonal employee). We had them for a week, but we've been out of stock for a while.

As for the mouse, I like it. I do recommend using MagicPrefs to customize it.

I'm sure it has something to do with people being frustrated with the dirty ball of the Mighty Mouse and looking to jump ship while at the same time remaining loyal to Apple.

I've tried it out, and it's too cramped for my hands. Gotta wait another few years until they try again I guess.

I'm loving mine... But I have one problem. The Magic Mouse drains batteries at an alarming rate, and it causes my Apple wireless keyboard to do the same. The problem started after I got the Magic Mouse, and stopped using my Mighty Mouse. There are a lot of other people in Apple's support discussions who have reported the same issues. I called AppleCare yesterday, and they said that they would submit the issue to Apple's engineering team.
