Jawbone brings new, very iPhone friendly headset to market

Jawbone has a new, feature rich Bluetooth headset called the ICON that is a nice match for the iPhone. New to this headset is a battery meter that displays on the iPhone, something the Apple Bluetooth headset also did. The Apple headset was quietly discontinued last spring after disappointing sales and reviews.

The ICON lets you set custom tones and multiple voices to alert you to incoming calls, and a feature called MyTALK that allows you to control mini-apps that change the voices or language (Spanish, French, or German) and allows you to customize a button to call 411 or connect to other voice services.

The newest Jawbone has also switched from the old proprietary power connector to a mini micro-USB cable, which is very welcome. The headset also claims to further reduce background and wind noise.

The headset now comes in 6 color designs, including variations of black, gold, pearl and black laced with red.

The newest addition to the Jawbone line is U.S. $100.00. Even though the new headset has iPhone-friendly features, it's available today at Verizon dealers, with other retailers to follow.

When will the ICON be available for purchase from the Apple Store?

What's up with that odd loop at the end... Looks really odd. I don't use my Jawbone 2 enough to warrant an upgrade. But this does appear to be an awesome headset.

All Bluetooth headsets stink. While they might sound good in your ear, the people you talk do have to put up with metallic clipped noise.

Seriously, call your voicemail and record a message while using one. This is what people have to listen to. Awful.

I've gotten nothing but kind words from those having to hear my voice over a jawbone BT headset. I know, because I sought out their feedback to see if it was worth keeping.

Would be nice to have that battery meter on older Jawbones.

Correction: It uses micro-USB, not mini-USB. This is very welcome considering micro-USB was selected as the world standard for a majority of devices based on the new EU standardization requirements for accessories. Apparently even Apple agreed to it. I'm curious to see how Apple integrates both the micro-USB and dock connector into the future iPhone.

My (not so) new (now) Jawbone still has the out of the box smell to it. I'll go buy an iPhone 3GS and renew my 2-year deal with ATT to help the chances of an Verizon iPhone next week.

Just remember that until the 4G version of the iPhone is out for AT&T and Vzw, your experience with an iPhone on Verizon today will not be ideal given that the CDMA network cannot handle simultaneous voice and data. Only if you're on wifi will you be able to talk and surf at the same time. I use this feature a lot to:
- Send emails while talking to clients
- Make dinner/lunch reservations with OpenTable while talking to someone
- Looking up movie times while talking to someone

I'm just looking forward to Vzw having the iPhone so that all the frustrated people will get off my network! The primary reason why AT&T is having so many challenges is the shear number of users with smartphone devices in densely populated areas. Although, go up to Seattle or Portland though, and it's significantly faster than San Francisco, and it's not even 7.2Mbps yet.

We won't have an LTE iPhone until 2011 at the earliest. Just saying!
