VT-D isn't even enabled on the 2008 Mac Pro's.

January 19 2010 at 6:16 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is a pretty low level firmware update, likely highly specific to the Core i7 based architecture the machines are built around. Lack of firmware updates doesn't mean the product is obsolete, it just means there aren't any outstanding major issues to be addressed with the hardware and firmware.

What does this mean for me, I have an early 2009 model (January 2009)
VT-d allows a virtual machine to have direct access to hardware, like an extra network card, or GPU.
Parallels 5 and VMWare Fusion 3 do not currently support VT-d, but Parallels did show a demo of it at WWDC 09.
Unitor 8 and AMT 8 users should visit my website for a modern preference pane replacement for the clunky and old Unitor Control application.

On the Unitor drivers, this is excellent news for Unitor and AMT 8 users because previously these drivers were only available by purchasing Logic or iLife. If they had been freely available like this since 2002 it would have saved a lot of frustration for a lot of people.

January 19 2010 at 1:15 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyCouldn't agree more. What's up with that? I haven't seen an update for my Mac Pro 2006 ever.
