Tom Bihn announces two iPad bags
And let the accessorizing begin! Tom Bihn, maker of messenger bags and laptop bags, has already announced two bags that will fit the iPad. One is a sleeve called the "Cache" that will come in a size specific to iPad, and the other is a vertical messenger bag, called the "Ristretto" that adds a shoulder strap for all your iPad-carrying needs. We're quite sure that the market for iPad cases, covers, and accessories will be as swift as it was for the iPhone (Ed: Probably swifter, given all the excitement for the tablet). If nothing else, Apple's zealous regard for industrial design has led to some gorgeous and stylish accessories for its products. I can't wait to see what else is in store for the iPad.

January 28 2010 at 4:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply@Bruno111: I can't speak for anyone else but I wasn't expecting anything in particular. I think Apple already had a product for every plausible end user--something better (if pricier) than the competition. (I'm using an iMac and will take my iPhone 3G when I leave the house--I'm an Apple admirer, not an Apple scoffer.) My skepticism is based on my hunch that there's no plausible end user for an iPod Touch too large for a pocket, or a hobbled MacBook that lies flat unless propped against something. It's an awkward solution to a non-existent problem.
January 28 2010 at 11:23 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyTell that to my wife, who uses her netbook ~2 hours a day, curled up on the couch or bed, and another hour or two at work, with a big honking USB Aircard jutting out the side. She uses, in total, 3 apps - Web Browser, Excel, Word - That's it.
An iPad would be perfect for her. And frankly, most of the users I support only use MS Office, a web browser, and iTunes - so add Dataviz Docs2go to a stock iPad, and for 640$ +30$/mo, we can offer that as an alternative to a laptop (500-1800$) +60$/mo aircard. (not to mention the $$ saved by not using a MS Office + Symantec License).
I love Tom Bihn bags. Have one myself. I may just have to get the iPad JUST to have a reason to buy the bag! ;-)
January 28 2010 at 11:04 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhy are so many people complaining about the size of iPad? What were you guys expecting? A 7inch screen device that runs full OS X and controlled by touch input? Wake up! That would be impossible to do!
January 28 2010 at 6:05 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOh Noooo! We might not actually get the iPad. This from Apple's site...
This device has not yet been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.
Are you kidding me?! $110 for a canvas messenger bag? I think that these so called 'designers' are pulling one over on all the hipsters who think that they need these obscenely priced items to appear cool and insiderish.
wow. can't imagine the demographic market for these... talk about having more money than common sense.
Tom Bihn stuff seems way overpriced in the pictures- but the quality of construction and attention to detail is top notch. I have an Empire builder briefcase/messenger bag and Brain Cell for my 15" MBP, and the pictures/descriptions on the web do not do it justice.
All I can say is that the quality on Bihn bags are incredible. I even met the guy in their factory in Seattle.

Yep...like I said...that one stays at home and mine is the $729 32 gig version that goes on the road. I confess I have purchased two first gen ipod touch, one second and one third. Bad fan boy. Bad. I'm Apples favorite customer.
Yep. It's me, the AppleFanBoy. Steve did it again. Gave me just what I wanted.
$499 for a tablet to sit in a doc and take the place of a digital picture frame ($100). I can do all the other things I do on my Touch but can see it so much better ($300). I can use it for the DVD player for my grandson on road trips($150). I wont have to buy that Kindle ($489). I think thats a pretty good deal and that only touches the surface of what you get.
I like to think of this device evolving and becoming part of my home security. I hope to see my grandson with an iPad in College on day so he doesnt have to spend $150 for a single text book and find out its worthless for the next student because of "major revisions". As a textbook, interactive reader, this concept can pay for itself in one semester in lower cost for those old text books.
And when the wifi version sits at home for everyone to use, I'll get myself a 3G version to take on vactions and road trips. Nice to not have to have a contract. Just get it started before the trip and cancel when I return. Sweet.
I hear all the moans. No camera, no multi tasking...endless list. But where do you stop to keep it within the price line that will allow this device to evolve. Why kill it because it does it all but cost $1500 and no one can afford it? You kill the inovation before it takes hold.
I'm happy with what His Steveness has created. I tip my hat and pay my Apple tax with no regrets.
Thanks Steve
igotzzoom makes a good point that hasn't been much mentioned in all the hoopla (careful, don't step in the hoopla.) The iPad is a great big iPod Touch--way too big for any pocket. Isn't this sort of like the old joke about the Soviets proudly announcing the Worlds Largest Microprocessor? Aren't early buyers going to realize, after a day or two, that the new gadget is actually cumbersome? And won't they then warn their friends? Am I the only one who thinks the size (which I refuse to call a "form factor") is a terrible mistake that will doom the iPad, before 2010 is out, to the punchline bin?
