Macworld 2010: Andrew Gregory of AutoTune the News

We can reveal our secret now: during Macworld's setup, we wandered into the wrong room, and randomly came across a stage shared by David Pogue, LeVar Burton, and the Gregory Brothers A.K.A the AutoTune the News crew, all rehearsing for David Pogue's keynote. The keynote went off well, and afterwards, I asked Andrew Gregory to come by for a conversation at the booth; Andrew does the extremely popular Autotune the News segments on YouTube with his brothers Michael and Evan, along with Evan's wife Sarah. He kindly agreed, and you can watch the video of our chat by clicking on the link below.

Andrew told us that he and his brothers have been Mac users from the start, and he also shares with us part of the story behind the I am T-Pain AutoTune app, along with his impressions of the Macworld show floor. It was very fun to meet up with him in a pretty unlikely place -- be sure and give our chat a look.

Was my previous post deleted?

AOL knows whats targeted advertising is.
Only two to three "personalities" need to be there if money is tight.
Don't riff, have questions on an index card if you must.
Forget this "live" streaming stuff, just let us watch the video after we hit play.

I've been reading this site for well over a year (two?) while the articles are fine most of the time, I find that event-coverage is public access mom's basement quality. I would take some of the advert money and hire a ON SCREEN talent. Leave the bloggers behind the screen.

Gotta agree with Greg here. Need to work on interview skills here. Too much blah blah on the part of the interviewer, too little from the interviewee.

And what was up with the 1:30 wait for the vid??

First I have to wait through a 30sec commercial, then stumble through another 1:30 for "Next Stream" (nice editing) all to watch you get star struck by an internet "celebrity" and repeat how you walked in on him and LeVar Burton for another minute. What a professional bunch you are. By the time I got through that fluff I was no longer interested in anything either one of you had to say. Word of advice, if your trying to make money or offset costs by advertising, at least make the content worth watching. Why? Because now I'll never sit through another one of your commercials ever ever ever again. Good luck with that advertising model. On to the next web site.

Auto-tune the News was funny when they did the first video but man did they really beat that bit into the ground.

REALLY TUAW?!?!?

a WAL-MART commercial?

You can do better than that!

A daily reader since your inception, this is where I've kept abreast of what's what (and more importantly WHEN...) in the Mac Environment, and now you've lost me.

I fully understand the need for backing/funding/etc., it is after all a business.

That said, a Walmart ad is asking too much. MicroSoft would have been more palatable. I find it heartbreaking that TUAW's growth has made it incrementally and ironically, Less.

What a sad day.

Nathan, sorry you're frustrated by the ads. For what it's worth, we don't choose our advertisers.

The onsite video streaming is a major investment for our corporate parent and the ability to recoup that investment is what's being tested here with inline ads.

The question of whether future Mac events will be covered with live streamed video is subject to circumstances. If Aol can't position ads within our content, we can't afford to come to Macworld and provide you with these interviews. Simple as that.

Are there ways to make the advertising less obtrusive, or to sell to advertisers who might be more aligned with our readership? Sure, and I hope those things happen -- but this is an experiment. Your feedback will help shape the next event we cover.

It's not the size of the mic, it's the...

Sorry. Thought I had something there, but no.
