Macheist arrives. Again.

The latest MacHeist countdown has finished and, after a few tense moments as they got their ducks in a row last night, the new bundle is ready for sale.

This year's "nano bundle" includes the following apps at an incredible discount:
  1. MacJournal
  2. RipIt
  3. Clips
  4. CoverScout
  5. Flow
  6. Tales of Monkey Island
  7. Rapidweaver
That's more than US$260 worth of software for a mere twenty bucks. Note that Tales of Monkey Island and Rapidweaver are the "Unlock Apps." That is to say, they'll become available once certain sales milestones have been reached; Monkey Island will go on sale once 50,000 bundles have been sold, and Rapidweaver after that.

I tend to buy software as I need it or as I realize that I've been using it for a while without sending off some cash to the developer. When participating in these "event" sales, I tend to forget that I ever downloaded the stuff, often being surprised at finding the software thus acquired in my /Applications folder. Your mileage will, of course, vary. For some of you out there in reader-land, this bundle may turn out to be the best thing since, I dunno, sliced bread or Wheatabix or citizen band radios or whatever, for you.

So if you're a bundle kind of person, Woo Hoo! The stuff is here (or at least, nearly here.) Here's hoping there are some goodies for you, this go 'round that will enhance your day-to-day Mac use and bring some joy into your software life.

Just puchased it, but they don't say when Rapidweaver will be available. I just purchased it for that App. Any one knows how this gets activated ?

MacHeist bundle is not waste of money. I don't buy bundles for software, but for charity. I always donate to charity, because there are no so fortunate people who needs our help, and this is one way to do it.

I was really happy when RipIt was included in the bundle though. I downloaded it one week before the bundle was announced, and I fell in love with it. (PS: I only use it to backup hollywood DVD, NO PIRACY, I hate piracy. This is why I never pirate software, even Adobe apps)

Besides, MacHeist bundle can be written off as Tax Deductible, since it is considered a charitable donation.

No it can't be written off as charitable donation. Firstly, only 25% of what you pay is donated. Secondly, you are not supposed to receive goods or services for charitable donations. You are receiving software.

I'm well on my way to getting artwork for my 800+ albums that iTunes hasn't been able to find, thanks to CoverScout. I'd never heard of it, and wouldn't have paid $40 for it, but as part of a $20 I went for it.

I don't own any of these apps so it's an excellent deal for me. I'll be using MacJournal (used it back in the day, looks like they're working on an iPhone app too) and RipIt (hopefully better than MacTheRipper). The others I'll try out -- while I may not use them all the time I don't see a lemon in the bunch.

As for people's complaints about having the same software in the bundles, I have two suggestions for MacHeist:

1. Create separate bundles for "games", "productivity", etc.
2. Have upgrade pricing.

I can assure you that RipIt blows away MacTheRipper.
I switched a couple months ago and have never looked back.

I just tried ripping one of my DVDs with a scratch on it, and it appeared from RipIt that it succeeded. But when I try playing it from either VLC or Apple DVD Player, it all off a sudden fails to play a few minutes into one of the titles. When I do the same thing in MacTheRipper, the rip also succeeds and interestingly enough playback works fine (I notice no glitches).

I'm guessing this means MacTheRipper's error handling is better than RipIts. For me, this means I'll keep using MacTheRipper and use RipIt only as an alternative when MTR fails (which it does sometimes).

The interface is far better in RipIt. I especially like the bug reporting mechanism where you enter the DVD info and send through the app.

Bought iRipit and RapidWeaver from Macupdate Promo. RW is a great program for theme based web design. But even if it's a great deal I own the programs here or equivalents already. So it's a standback from me.

Just one interesting thing: The MacFriendly.org bundle recently ended. After Machesit started its countdown both Macbuzzer.com and TheMacSale.com have gone live.

In my opinion TheMacSale.com is the one killer one since it has Pathfinder from Cocoatech.

While I already own 3 copies of Rapidweaver, I'm a fan of giveaways. :) I haven't bought RipIt yet (I know. Crazy.) and I've been thinking about Flow for a while. For me, it's great. I can see why people might not want it, and that's fine. You can buy it or not. Personally, I'll buy it. $20 is less than a tank of gas now, so it's not like the price is too high...

I'm not sure how much mileage I would get out of the other programs, but I would really like to get RapidWeaver for $20. What are the odds that the heist will sell enough to unlock it?

I bought it for RipIt and RapidWeaver, but Flow and CoverScout are already proving their worth. Despite an hour long activation process due to the high server load, CoverScout has already helped me assign proper artwork to a good chunk of my albums.

If like me you have ever wanted to delete iTunes for constantly downloading utterly incorrect artwork, CoverScout is essential.

I always consider the MacHeist bundles a bit more interesting than the competition, because they tend to put in some original software you won't find anywhere else -- like in this bundle, for me the game changer is "Tales of Monkey Island".

If I hadn't bought it already for the normal price, I definitly would have gotten this package.

All the other stuff has been on sale so often (like "Ripit" even on MacHeist itself) that I don't think, anyone doesn't have it already (last night, after the bundle was revealed, one of my fellow MacHeisters tweeted, he alone owns FOUR licensed of "Rapidweaver" and doesn't understand why he should get a fifth one ...).
Also, most of the software may be useful but it's not the kind of software I would buy specifically (I already have an free FTP client and when I'm going to write a diary, I don't need any special app for that).

This is yet another useless bundle that promoters are trying to sell as the best thing since sliced bread. It's not just MacHeist... every bundle I saw last year was a total waste of html code to promote. The vast majority of these apps I would not download if they were free.

Please don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the idea of these bundles, and have bought several in the past. However, to be successful, there needs to be one or two apps that folks don't already have from a previous bundle (MacJournal, Clips) and/or apps that are useful to a wide audience. There is nothing new in this bundle that would cause me to want to spend $20. Again, there is nothing there I would download even if it was free.

Just my opinion, please don't shoot me. LOL
