ClickToFlash 1.6b7 solves YouTube's "Old Flash? Go upgrade!" message

If you have ClickToFlash installed, you may have seen a note telling you that you have an old version of Flash and encouraging you to upgrade.

As you might expect, you don't need to upgrade Flash, but you do need to upgrade ClickToFlash. The current version is ClickToFlash-1.6b7-upload1.zip, but you may have go to the Github page for ClickToFlash to download it.

Jonathan Rentzsch explained that he hasn't been able to update it himself due to illness. However, given that it is open-source, four others (identified as ndfred, Justin, ssp and lapcat) identified the problem and a solution, and Rentzsch merged it back into the main branch of the code.

That's pretty awesome, if you ask me.

So if you've run into this problem at YouTube, take a few minutes, download the new version, quit Safari, and run the installer. Voilà!

i really like clicktoflash, it's one of the reasons i'm using safari more and more. but, perhaps i missed something in the article above; but, when i check for updates in the clicktoflash settings, i'm told that 1.5.3 is the newest version available. what's this 1.6b7 version about then?

I second Brandon in that all that is needed is to clear out all youtube and google cookies. Upgrading did not solve my problems, so instead I downgraded to stable again and cleared out all youtube and google cookies and Voilá! It all works like a charm.

Why does apple not adopt click2flash for the ipad. Would be the best of both worlds.

version 1.5.4 is about ready to go out, which rolls in 1.6b7's YouTube fix. It will be available via the normal Sparkle upgrade channel, so if you just want to wait for the auto-update, that's cool too.

I ran into this problem and got around it by enabling HTML5 mode on YouTube. That didn't work at first, so I then deleted all google and youtube cookies I had, re-enabled HTML5 mode, and THEN it worked. :)

Any similar solution for me on Windows 7? I disable Flash in 'Tools,' but its just too cumbersome to toggle it back and forth.

I am envious of this Safari add on...

It's generally not good for first impressions to have a grammar mistake in your first sentence...
