Make your Magic Mouse more comfortable and ergonomic
Here's a clever solution to an aggravating problem. Apple's Magic Mouse ships with all new iMacs and features the first multi-touch surface on a mouse. As you would expect, it's got a sleek, tidy design that looks great on your desk. But doesn't necessarily feel great in your hand. It's no hockey puck, but for some users the ergonomics aren't what they should be.
Will, an Apple fan and part owner of hybridracing.com, decided to do something about it. After some testing, he came up with a small chunk of silicone that sits atop the Magic Mouse with the help of a suction cup. Hence, the Magic Mouse, Fixed was born. This US$10 accessory sits between your palm and the mouse, and can be positioned just so. Watch the video after the break to get an idea of what it feels like. Nice work, Will!

Magic Mouse is great, I admit: the drivers are sh**e, but the form factor is perfectly balanced.
With the right 3rd party drivers it is really magic..
This hunk of silicone would take away functionality and would ruin a great device.

I highly recommend Wacom's tablets not just for artists but as general input devices.

March 16 2010 at 11:33 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHonestly, if I didn't like the ergonomics of my mouse I'd buy one I liked. In this case, the guy is using the mouse wrong.
Do people actually think Apple somehow forgot the shape of a human hand? The Magic Mouse was not designed to be "grabbed", it was designed to be worked with the fingers, hence the low profile. If you use your fingers, not a hunched hand, it's LESS stressful than a regular mouse, not more.
"Grabbing" it is the wrong way to use it so, yeah, if you're gonna use it that way I guess it needs a "fix".
Finally, I'm not saying you have to LIKE Apple's approach, I'm simply saying there's nothing wrong with the design. It's excellent when used as intended.
This mouse was put back in my 27" iMac box the second day after I bought it. The mouse is too flimsy for me. Not all people are 120 lbs and 5'4" like where these things are made. I hear this "BetterTouchTool" makes it 'better' to use http://blog.boastr.net/?page_id=195
March 16 2010 at 10:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis looks more uncomfortable to me that anything else. My palm doesn't really touch the body of the Magic Mouse. Plus, with Better Touch Tool, I've added on more gestures for apps on my Mac and this would just get in the way.
I'm gonna pass on this thing.
I actually *like* the hockey puck mouse. It's just the right size and weight for me to hold it exclusively with my thumb and little finger. I never understood why people hate it. It's only uncomfortable if you try to rest your palm on it, but does anybody really use a mouse that way? If so, that's kind of dumb.
March 16 2010 at 8:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think the magic mouse is the best mouse I have ever used, the last Apple mouse (I won't even use its' name) was crap. I really liked some of the MS mice, but this new magic mouse is perfect to me.
March 16 2010 at 7:19 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt's interesting that such a thing exists. Personally, I've had no problem.
I'd like to hear from more people who do have issues with it, it'll be interesting to learn why it's painful for some people.
My only complaint about the Magic Mouse is as Michael above said, needs better battery life - or alternatively a wired version (which I would of rather purchased if they existed)
