Found Footage: How to connect an iPad to your existing wireless keyboard

Along with Erica Sadun, I had some trouble connecting my shining new iPad to an Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard. Eventually we both got it sorted out, but there are a few things that you do need to know. My problem was that although I could connect easily to an older BT keyboard, I could not pair with the one that came with my new iMac. My solution was found in this video that showed me that I had to totally get my iMac to forget the keyboard before it could be paired to another device.

Obvious? Well maybe to many, but not to me. This video by huskermania walks you through it simply and elegantly.

Thanks for this video. I *hate* typing on the iPad virtual keyboard and with my new iMac the wireless that was included is a boon. I already had the larger keyboard to use with my desktop so now the little guy will stay with the iPad.

I couldn't figure it out from another forum, so finding this vid really helped. The funny thing is as soon as I started typing the letters came out all wrong. I had set up some additional international keyboards on the iPad for fun so had to reestablish the right English settings.

count me in as one of the white bluetooth keyboard users who is unable to pair with iPad.

No good reason for this. I sure hope there is a fix as I sure don't want to pay for a new keyboard as the white one works perfectly well otherwise.

Cheers

I have the exact same problem… i even took a screenshot of the code as it appeared.. but of course, it's a new code each time you attempt to pair.

Alas.

Same problem here with the paring the original white apple bluetooth keyboard to the iPad. Not funny anymore. My Macs (5 of them) are too old to charge it. My phones (2 of them) are too old to multitask. Now my keyboards (all 3 of them) are too old to pair? Apparently any stupid old Win BT keyboard will pair but not the old Apple ones? I'm about ready to put it in the blender.

Same problem with the old white BT Keyboard. I've been trying to get it to work since Saturday, and I'm glad I finally saw this thread, at least I know it's not just me!

nsteinmetz: I hope you're right and they do release an update for either the iPad or the keyboard.

It's not a HUGE deal, but I was looking forward to using the keyboard to write emails etc and who wants to spend $70 on a new one.
