Speed Download 5.2.15, and a deal to get it $10 off

But perhaps more importantly, they're running a promotion that drops the price by ten bucks. When you put the "iwantfast" coupon code in at checkout, you can pick up the software for $15 rather than the usual $25. That's a petty good deal on a piece of software that has come in even handier than I expected when I first picked it up.

The good folks over at YazSoft have released version 5.2.15 of Speed Download, a nice download manager/FTP client that helps me out a lot...

In the age of broadband, why do people use download managers anyways? It was nice in the bygone days of dial-up to be able to queue your downloads and moderate speeds but really, what's the use now?

My downloads are fast enough as it is!
Use jDownloader instead. Great free software for downloading files if you don't need ftp...
April 06 2010 at 11:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAs someone who has bought Speed Download *multiple times*, I must say there's definitely an element of evil here. Speed Download is for one computer only, meaning if it detects another copy of Speed Download running on your network with the same serial number (!) it tells you then closes the application.
This has caused me to buy the app three times, but it still bites me in the ass when I go to install the software and don't realise which one is which. Personally, I think it's a bit slack to demand such specific one-serial-number-to-one-machine anti-piracy measures. It's like Microsoft Office, but from an indy Mac dev that should know better.
Why are download managers believed to be evil?
