TUAW Exclusive: Element Case launches the Joule, a luxury iPad stand

We covered the iPhone cases from Element Case a couple of years ago, and I was impressed with their build quality and design. Now they've released a beautiful aluminum stand called the Joule for the iPad. As you can see from the gallery, the Joule is simplicity itself: a machined and polished cylinder of aluminum with a leg in the back for stabilization. There are three holes to customize the angle of tilt on the iPad and the device itself rests in a velvet-lined groove. We've got a review unit on the way and we'll be giving some away soon, so stay tuned for that. You can also have the Joule in polished aluminum (seen above) or anodized black, plus they'll zap your logo or almost whatever on the thing with a laser -- for a fee.

Meanwhile, you can buy a Joule here for $129. The first 100 TUAW readers to order with a promo code can purchase the Joule for $99. The promo code is: TUAWJ1

Check back for a full review and the giveaway early next week. Until then, enjoy the gallery.

I ordered a Joule stand almost a week ago, paid for it and never heard back from Element Case after 4 e-mails. I am assuming they are on vacation or out of business. Either way, now I have to figure out a way to get a refund from a company that apparently has no customer service. Beware.

Obvious comments about the hotness of the model aside...$129? Discounted for $99?

This product is almost pure margin. Either someone misplaced a decimal, or I'm in the wrong line of work.

$99... for a stand ... ?

Do they call it the Joule because it feels as though you have been kicked in yours after you buy one?

I spent the second half of the sixties in a velvet-lined groove.

$129 and it doesn't even charge the damn thing! Not to mention there is no pic of the black one, so you're ordering it blind. Lame.

The stand looks great, but it looks expensive. I purchased 2 wire easels to uses stands, and they work great! The best part is, they only cost me $10 at my local craft store. I'll take that savings and buy AppleCare!

I you want a cheap alternative, I just bought an 8" table easel from Walmart for $3.50 that works BEAUTIFULLY with the iPad. Its pretty sturdy, matches the iPad's black bezel, and doesn't obstruct any part of the screen. You can't really adjust the viewing angle on it, but its comfortable and the screen has such a high viewing angle that the screen looks good no matter where you set it.
