The $5 iPad dock

Despite the glut of fancy iPad dock accessories flooding the market, a trio of enterprising Dutchmen have come up with a brilliantly simple iPad dock. As you can see from the picture, the good Dutchmen have taken a block of wood and sawed a groove into it and... that's it. Told you it was simple. The dock is made from ild treewood which is both light and non-scratching, making the accessory easy to carry in your iPad bag.

The creators note that the current product is only a pre-production model and that they're still working on it. The next step is to smooth and finish the ild treewood. Production starts when they get 50 people to sign up for pre-orders. All stands are handmade. Best of all, it only costs $5 (or free, if you make one yourself).

I want one of those acrylic paperweight things they're using at the Apple Stores with the iPads on display. Do things like that eventually wind up in the trash bin?

I have this lovely glass picture frame that came with this triangular stand and what do you know it works perfectly for the iPad too. Very minimal — perfect!

I wonder if they'll make this open source. That material looks very proprietary, though.

I'm telling you man, this is still way too high tech. What you do is what I do: take off your shoes and place them on your desk. Slip the iPad between the shoes and adjust for optimum viewing angle. It's so convenient, because when I'm done I can put my shoes back on and not even have to worry about where I'll store my 'dock' :)

That's a stand, not a dock.

Really, man?

You're posting about a piece of wood with a slit cut in it?

Here are some other things you might want to post about:

-- Use an ordinary paper towel to clean your iPad
-- How to place a laptop on a table
-- A drawer can hold computer stuff in it
-- How to turn down volume on your iPhone
-- What things are bigger than a breadbox
-- Poison: DON'T EAT IT!

And so forth.

HAHAHAHA!! This is a world of loops... it all started out with DIY simple, dead-cheap stands like paper clip stands, cardboard stands, etc. Then there came expensive, fancy, commercially sold stands like Apple's overpriced iPad stand. And now people are realizing all they need are STANDS THAT WORK!!! so it goes back to the amazing, good old DIY stands.
