Apple releases Backup 3.2
Apple has released an update to its Backup software. The update also re-brands the Backup application as MobileMe Backup. The MobileMe Backup v3.2 update improves the reliability of backup restore and uses space more efficiently on your iDisk or local storage. Backup was originally offered to .Mac subscribers as an easy backup solution. In 2006 when Apple introduced Time Machine, people widely assumed that Apple would abandon its much-neglected Backup app. When Apple discontinued .Mac and made the transition to MobileMe, Backup was still available to MobileMe users via a folder on their iDisk, but was never advertised as a feature on the MobileMe website. With today's re-branding and software update, it seems like Apple still feels the Backup app is still a relevant feature for its MobileMe users.
MobileMe Backup v3.2 requires a MobileMe account and Mac OS X 10.4.11, Mac OS X 10.5.8, or Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

So, I have MobileMe. Is this backup app on my Mac? When I click on the link, it "can't find the article."

This would seem like a natural progression as we move toward cloud computing.
I haven't used any Apple backup software more than once, and that was just to see what Time Machine was all about. I use Dropbox for storage in the cloud, and SuperDuper for home backups.

April 14 2010 at 2:23 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBackup is a great tool. I use it daily to backup my Address book and iCals. It has saved my bacon a few times.

Or Apple should just buy dropbox.
No! The greatest beauty of Dropbox is its cross-platform interoperability.
If Apple bought it, they'd neglect the Linux version, and probably the Windows version too!
No, I think the only one who could properly pull off a Dropbox buyout would be a company that has a lot invested in the Linux Desktop, and a penchant for streamlined, easy to use web apps.
(And the only possibility I can come up with is Google, who could probably increase the service's storage while they're at it.)
Works like a charm for me. Backing up to iDisk, external HD's makes life nice. I also use Time Capsule as an emergency Backup.
Backup works more like a filing system for me than anything else. Music, Clients data, and personal data.
I still use it regularly... another backup is always a good option.
BTW, Backup 3.1.2 is still in my /iDisk/Software folder... and it doesn't have an update option, so I'll have to hit the link you've provided.
... only after you pry Crashplan from my cold, dead fingers.
