the i7 firmware update wasn't the best. for something that was to fix audio issues, i wasn't too pleased with the results. after reboot, i started up safari & went to apple to gawk at trailers. no audio. huh? played with the audio controls on the keyboard & got loud nasty crackling noises as i raised & lowered the volume level. the crackling stopped when i set the audio level to zero then brought it back up to my usual listening level. now it's working as before but the initial loss of audio then the nasty crackling noises took me aback ...

IGO,

Apparently you don't read very well.

My Mac Book Pro will not start.

No chime, no monitor, no nothing. No Mac.

Think before you type.

Did you do any firmware updates, or just software updates? If you didn't do Firmware updates Then a software update will NOT cause that behavior, none of the above listed were for MBP but I'm not gonna assume you didn't have an earlier one waiting. That being said I'm hoping you didn't have a firmware update that was inadvertently ended before it was finished. This would have required you to manually enter firmware update by holding down the power button.

Lets assume for a second that your mac's volume was off when you rebooted and that's why you're not hearing a chime. Make sure you don't have any CD's in the drive, hold down the mouse (trackpad button) while turning the machine on this will force eject anything in the drive.

If that doesn't help reset your SMC per apples instructions for your model.

If that doesn't help, well hopefully you're macbook is still under warranty and head to an apple store.

What about a Security Update for Tiger?

Doesn't Tiger suffer from these zero day exploits?

What is meant by 10.6.3 v1.1, whats the 1.1 for?

For this time i updated from 10.6.2 -> 10.6.3 but im going to be reinstalling the OS soon which will set me back to 10.6.0

So should i just get the combo update from 10.6.x to 10.6.3 (v1.1) or since i already have the others downloaded, go the long way 10.6.0 -> 10.6.1 -> 10.6.2 -> 10.6.3?

Thanks in advance

After you reinstall Snow Leopard, download and install the 10.6.3 v1.1 combo update. You do NOT need to upgrade to 10.6.1 etc.

(In fact, if you use the Apple software update utility right after you reinstall Snow Leopard, it will show this 10.6.3 v1.1 combo update. It is faster to go DIRECTLY from 10.6 to 10.6.3).

P.S. Before and after you install a OS update, it is a good idea to run DISK UTILITY and repair permissions.

From what I understand, the 10.6.3 v1.1 update is only intended for those that have updated to 10.6.3 directly from 10.6.
If you updated from 10.6.1 or 10.6.2 it's not needed...

Installed the security update with no issues.

Adam, is this why I am not seeing the v1.1 update when I run Software Update? Where did you get this information from?

I just did this update and when my Mac Book Pro 15" tried tried to restart I got nothing.

Just the power light on the front of the flashed on and the CD drive made a noise. Nothing further.

I imagine it's just a coincidence, but now my Mac is basically gone.
