Today's two-second laugh: iPad printing, solved

Take one iPad with any application running (and a clear-as-day multitouch screen), add one multi-function printer with an optical scanner, and boom, you've solved the problem of printing from iPad. Who needs a firmware update when you've got a little ingenuity?

Points to the clever folk at Form for coming up with this.

Yeah, because student (me) really write research papers on our iPads /sarcasm. Besides, 4.0 will allow printing whenever it comes out.

Seriously? A joke is a joke (as in the post). But, the comments from people that really think you can't print from an iPad?

Educate yourselves... Or, as they say, there's an app for that.

The idea for that picture is a rip-off of an old joke about how blondes print from Microsoft Word, which went viral in the early 2000s - it was a picture of an old-style monitor laid face down on a photocopier...

well if you went through all that trouble, you could just print from the desktop couldn't you?

in Good Reader my networked printer shows up but no printing. future app update? lack of printing is a major flaw and Apple will probably include it in the next version for another $500 upgrade.

Go for Air Sharing Pro. Wireless and USB file transfers, reads just about any document, and can Print to any printer hooked up to the network. And it has document sharing hooks so future apps will be able to edit the files directly. (PS - APPLE, please add the file sharing hooks to iPads iWork stuff. The way to get documents on and off now is absolutely terrible.

If anything, I'd say the habit of printing everything is keeping people stuck in time rather than moving forward. I've been in two different paperless office environments now, and things move along much more efficiently. Printing should go the way of the floppy drive (another tech Apple moved early to break us from).

Great Gadzooks!

Here is how you print with an iPad:

1) Go to the content that you want printed.

2) Press the home and power switch at the same time. Listen for the camera click.

3) Note that you get a screen shot in the Photo Album.

4) Plug your iPad into your desktop.

5) Print screenshot from iPhoto or Aperture.

What a bunch of ultramaroons, scanning an iPad...

Even Better:
Just print the screenshot using HP Photo Print.
Makes it feel like you're actually printing it from the device.

A better solution that doesn't require OSX Server. http://www.iaresmart.com/2010/05/ipad-printing-options.html
