Downloads page at Apple.com no longer being updated
On March 16th, we reported that although the "Downloads" tab had been removed from Apple's homepage, the downloads page itself was still available.
However, about 10 days after that, Apple apparently ceased updating the page. The most recent app listed under "Recently Added" is March 26th, and we've been told that developers who have sent in apps have not gotten any response.
Many applications will now check and report when new versions are available, but if you are looking for applications to fit a specific need, you can still use VersionTracker and MacUpdate.

...and we're back. New updates just appeared on the pages yesterday, hopefully it will continue.

I've been using the beta of Appfresh to do a similar thing on OSX (however it doesn't yet work seamlessly for me). Will have to try Bodega.
Anyways, I wonder if Apple might be working on turning "software update" into a "software centre." They could then charge developer a membership fee to have their apps included and auto-updated to users.
AppFresh rules. I never manually check for updates now. I just crank up AppFresh and let it download updates for me (unless the application uses Sparkle or some other update mechanism).

I was getting 80-90% of my business from Apple's download page. Since it's gone down 2 weeks ago now, this has halted to a crippling stall.
I have to believe there is something out there to replace it soon. Apple wouldn't just close this part of their website and give the finger to their developers. Would they?
I'm betting we are going to see a new tab in the iTunes Store soon.
"Mac Apps"
Everything is probably being moved to the new location.
@slembcke - Agreed. I wrote some widgets and 90%+ of the traffic was driven by Apple. Having a hard time believing Apple would just abandon a key part of their site like that.
April 21 2010 at 10:15 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell crap, that sucks. As a developer of some Mac software (Crayon Ball, Upshot) that is where we got about 80% of our downloads and sales from. Version Tracker (the next biggest) and MacUpdate were dwarfed by the number of people getting our software from Apple's site.
What the heck Apple? You do so much to make developers wary of the iPhone platform. Is this how you are showing that you don't care about the Mac market anymore or do you have something in mind to replace it with?
Apple Developer Connection is forbidden too: http://adcweb.apple.com/
Whereas a couple of days ago it was just down.
Clouds are gathering?
Actually, they just changed the address, that's all:

that's really sad. I liked browsing the downloads page for new software to try :(
but maybe an app store is coming to the mac?
does anyone agree with me that ClickToFlash is the best application in the whole effin world?
