Apple: Please use the Firefox browser to sign up for WWDC 2010

According to Jim's post, he was contacted by developers who ran into issues when trying to complete their transaction. One developer went so far as to do an online chat with an Apple support person and captured the screenshot of their conversation that is seen above.
Apparently devs who were using Safari 4.0.5 didn't run into the problem, but it's still pretty funny when Apple's own support personnel recommend using Firefox rather than the official browser.

I have a business affiliate site that doesn't work on Safari - so I use Firefox. Some video site video files will not open on Safari - so I use Firefox. And this week, my Wells Fargo banking (after years of problem-free Safari use) will not let me pay a bill without kicking me out of my session - so I use Firefox.
I think my Safari is screwed up too because it takes 20 seconds to 1 minute to open, but once opened, pages load quickly. Apple tech said only thing left was to reinstall the system! YIKES!!!!
Anyone else having this problem?
Have you tried clearing the cache?
April 28 2010 at 4:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBrowsers generally seem to have that issue, the longer you use them, the slower they get. When I started using Firefox, it was fast as hell, over the time it took at least a minute to start and caused beach balls all the time, taking up 900MB of ram sometimes with only 4 tabs open. Then I switched to Safari, was fast like the first day of using Firefox, but after a couple of months it was slow too.
I've been using Chrome now for about two months and there aren't any significant slow downs (yet).
Maybe it's just the cache growing, maybe it's the endless file of visited sites Firefox keeps or all the extensions (by which I mean 4). Seems like Safari is the fastest without extensions, but for me that makes it hardly useable, no adblock, no custom cssâ¦
But back to your original problem, maybe a little hardcore, but back up all Safari preferences (I don't know if there is more than /Library/Safari, maybe a Google search will help), delete the original ones and then see if it makes a difference. If it does, copy one file after the other and when you feel like it's getting slower you know which file it was, but deleting the cache should do.
Browsers could be so much more user friendly, considering they're used daily and probably more than most apps. It's great that there's a battle between companies, who can build the fastest browser, but I'd like them to compete for the browser that stays fast, I don't care if Safari can load java 5ms faster than Firefox if it takes twice the time to even start after using it for a month. But well, getting a little off topic hereâ¦
Will it sucks for Apple, at east the support person solved the issue. Unlike issues with IE...
I also wonder if the site registration process was built by contractors using FF instead of Safari...
M$ might have to hire half of the population in India to work on IE tech support. lol

April 28 2010 at 3:17 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI had the same problem last week using 4.0.5 when trying to purchase a Mca Dev subscription. Got to the very end when it asks for your Apple ID and disappeared into a loop. The support guy told me to use Firefox also, which worked without any issue. It's called dog food Cupertino. Try some!
April 28 2010 at 2:56 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIn the early days of Safari, I kept a copy of Firefox as a backup for sites that didn't work with Safari (or vice-versa). I still have a copy of FF, but use it rarely anymore, as Safari seems able to handle everything I throw at it.

But, you know, who wants that?
Thinking outside of the box (which is rare to see on the comments area like this) PERHAPS they need a lower level Browser for development on something they are working on to get it up to speed, just perhaps.
