IM+ lite now available for iPad and iPhone
Our full review of IM+ for iPad is in the works and should be appearing shortly, so I'll just hit some highlights here: With the exception of Skype chat, IM+ Lite supports the same features as the full version of IM+: Twitter, Facebook, Google Talk, Yahoo, MSN/Live Messenger, AIM/iChat, ICQ, MySpace and Jabber.
IM+ has a speech recognition option (as US$0.99 in-app purchase) and allows you to browse the Internet with a built-in browser so you needn't exit the app to follow links.
IM+ will notify you via push notifications of new email in Hotmail, Yahoo, or GMail accounts, as well as sending push notifications of new IMs on all supported networks.
The ad-free version of IM+ is $9.99, but if you haven't tried it yet, the lite version is a good way to do just that.
Unfortunately IM+ still does not support group chats in AIM (although they do work in MSN, and in Skype if you have the paid version). If you rely on that feature you'll still need to stick with BeeJiveIM.

IM+ is great, nice interface, push notifications are very helpful for the lack of multitasking, but crashes every other day. During normal chats sometimes freezes for a second and recovers, but sometimes just crashes. I hope they will fix it sooner than later.

It doesn't appear to be on iPad. However, for a free service on my iphone - it's been pretty stellar. (I didn't really mind the ads in IM+ -- but once I tried out Meebo without the ads I deleted IM+ for it instead)
You _do_ have to set up an account at meebo.com and configure it that way... but for you fellow cheapskates out there... it's a pretty good way to go. :)
I second Meebo. Free to download AND no ads!
I'd like someoone from TUAW to comment, it always seems like the "killer apps" in a category are the ones you have to pay for or have ads. I never seem to see an add for a free app. I might be missing something, but when I first tried IM+ it was buggy and crashed.
Something other IM clients don't promise that Meebo does is anonymity. Meebo passes thru all login tokens as encrypted and promises not to record chat or anything like that. I'd like to see if other iPhone apps promise the same thing.
IM+ vs. BeeJive... no brainer. BeeJive is a better and more stable app. Sucks there is no Skype support though.

I paid $10 for Beejive, and still no iPad version, and I bet (even though I just admitted I suck at betting) when they do come out with an iPad version it won't be universal. Got to get those $$$ I guess.
