Video tribute to the Get a Mac ad campaign
Last month we reported that Justin Long, who plays Mac in the Get a Mac ads, hinted that the advertising campaign had come to an end. Now it seems confirmed; the ads, first broadcast in 2006, can't even be found on the Apple page. Instead, the usual link now takes you to a page explaining the reasons that you should buy a Mac.
OneMoreThingPodcast has put together this fitting tribute to the many 30 second gems that have amused us over the last five years. I'm sure you'll find some of your favorite highlights in the video. So, I suppose it's back to making movies for Long, and back to The Daily Show for John Hodgman (an Apple user for over 20 years), giving up the role of PC.
Rest in peace, Get a Mac campaign. You were a good soldier.

67 US ones, if you count Sad Song separately from Sad Song (Long version). Plus 8 Japanese ads, and 15 UK ones too. The UK ads were great, I still get a chuckle from Pie Chart.

Smack talking a company for using hubris in a commercial is ridiculous. Every hair product will send you over the moon, cars make you cool, and every juice drink is like an explosion of flavour, so back off. The basis of these commercials was based on fact; Windows has a lot of viruses (whatever the reason), and the Mac has a lot of awesome stuff built in.
Also, Apple (actually their ad agency TBWA/Chiat Day) did something clever here by making it a Mac commercial and not a Mac OS 10.x commercial. That allowed them to make a full out campaign that people remember and they COULD actually run for a few years. It's more iconic. They're really good at this. The iPod silhouette commercials are art and these Mac vs. PC were instantly recognizable and were part of Apple's crazy growth. The iPhone commercials are great for showing solutions, regardless of version and the iMac commercials have always shown off their beauty. TBWA is just a better ad agency that Microsoft's (Crispen Porter Bogusky) and Google's (who knows/cares).
Windows Forever man, I am sorry but Mac sux. Only good out of it is its devices.
It's called Windows 7, vista was old news (like windows 2000).
Sad to see these go. They were the only commercials I've ever enjoyed watching.

Say what you will, they were clever and genius.
Onward and upward, Mr. Jobs.
They should do one more where PC final becomes a Mac.

Thanks John and Justin. You helped us all with no longer needing Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
