Chrome for Mac out of beta
Google has taken the "beta" adjective off of the Chrome for Mac browser, signifying that it's ready for primetime. The beta was originally released last December. Google Mac says it's ready for a stable release, and that the browser "provides not only the stability, performance, and polish that every Mac user expects, but also a seamless native Mac application experience that Mac users will feel instantly at home with."Additionally, the new release allows for full-screen mode (by hitting Command + Shift + F) and will synchronize bookmarks across computers (something I currently have to rely on Xmarks for in Firefox). And since it's Chrome, the update also adds speed bonuses and brings the HTML5 magic, including drag and drop file transfers for those sites that support the feature.
Google also notes that support for a baked-in version of Flash Player will be present in future releases of the browser. It's a little buggy right now (heh), but they're aiming to have it ready and out by Flash 10.1. You can still install and use the current version of Flash, if you want to.

2 things that make chrome absolutely useless to me
- I despise the tab close button on the right
- I despise the automatic 'select all' in the address bar
Speaking as someone who passionately hates Google, I can understand the apprehension, but if you're like me, you're annoyed with how bloated Firefox has become (I found myself constantly having to restart my entire system after just a single session... granted, I like to have numerous tabs open at once, but still) and how Safari just doesn't work with certain sites (I'm pissed how I have to input my Facebook password EVERY, SINGLE, TIME, no matter how many times I ask Safari to remember it), along with its piss-poor tabs management.
Chrome's interface is not too Mac like and is sorta fugly period, but trust me, use it for a little while and you will NOT go back. Maybe the early builds were buggy, for I've been rocking the beta for months and have been blown away by its speed, and most importantly, its stability. Every issue, which is minor, simply washes away.
I like Chrome been using this version today really fast stable to more than the other version just something always draws me back to safari i dont know if its just the UI or what but yeah it is a nice update
May 25 2010 at 9:30 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt took a while to get on Mac, but I'm glad it's here. I've already setup sync and it worked perfectly by syncing my personal settings and such from my PC's Chrome Setup.
Definite keeper for me.
I wouldn't try it [again] unless it had a Flash Blocker.
May 25 2010 at 4:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyChrome is faster for me than Safari, and DEFINITELY faster than Firefox, which feels ridiculously bloated to me now. Plus the UI is very nice and it supports extensions, which was the only thing keeping me on Firefox before. People who don't get the need for Chrome should try it out.

the same happens to me on my macbook trackpad and with an external mouse!
May 25 2010 at 4:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOkay, so WHAT do I use it for? I already have Safari and Firefox. Is having two browsers not enough to surf the web? Or is there a part of the World Wide Web that is only accessible to Chrome?
May 25 2010 at 3:30 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI honestly hope you are being sarcastic. If not, you use it by dumping a different browser for Chrome. I don't think I even have Firefox installed on my Mac anymore. But I still use Safari for browsing.
May 25 2010 at 3:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYou neeeed it because Google gives it to you and Google wants to be sure who you are no matter which site you go to and no matter how many times you delete cookies. Google sells advertising. It needs to sell more advertising so it makes things just good enough to justify having more advertising in it. Google will even sync things like bookmarks for you so it can see whereiver it is the you are even on other machines so it always is giving things to you. That's how they make money is selling space on things they give to you and justify higher prices because of what they know about you.
Baked-in flash sounds scary, given the adobe track record.
I've been playing around with Chrome for a while again now, but, again, the impression is that Safari is still faster on most things. The extensions market seems to have gotten off to a great start with Chrome, and is something that I miss with Safari, but in terms of just surfing the latter seems to be the winner.
Except for 1Password. That is what I am waiting for with chrome.
