Smallest Macs in short supply, mini update imminent?

If you're looking to pick up a Mac mini for Father's Day, you might want to consider a nice fishing rod instead. AppleInsider notes extremely constrained supplies of the diminutive white computer, and reports that several bulk purchasers and education buyers have had their orders pushed back to June 14, or been told to simply get the minimum number of units they need to get through the next couple of weeks.

What might we see in a refreshed mini? The AI post suggests the possibility of an HDMI port added to the machine, which would certainly make things interesting for the seemingly soon-to-be-replaced 'classic' Apple TV.

If you've tried and failed to buy a mini in the past week or two, let us know!

I ordered a 2.53ghz Mac Mini and pre-ordered an iPad over a month ago. Recently had a shipping update from the Apple Store to say this will now ship June 18th.... I'm really hoping an updated Mac Mini is unleashed in the meantime so I can change the order!

I'd bet that the AppleTV's current functionality will just get rolled into the Mac Mini and that the smaller "ipod without a screen" AppleTV will bifurcate Apple's TV offerings.

Hdmi would be great to have but I don't think it is going to happen. With the recent addition of audio out to the mini display ports on all Macbooks, I think that puts the final nail in the coffin. Apple has clearly said no, and I think they believe that the new display ports solve the "no hdmi" issue. Plus Apple loves to sell those $30 adapters, hahah. I see this as another flash and Apple isn't going to budge.

I have always wondered though, I thought Apple would have to pay fee for the use of an hdmi port on every machine they build? Assuming this info is true, is their any other ports that manufacturers have to pay to use? jw

my guess is mini display port with audio & new gfx nvidia geforce 320M most likely, + light speed bump, possibly HD increase and/or ram

Beats the AppleTV for a media center hands down as is... can't wait for one with an HDMI port!!! Would love to couple it with DVI and have it mirrored to two TVs for viewing movies in multiple rooms!

I heard the chance are really low, but always welcome for updates. The audio through the mini dvi isn't really big deal for me.

Mac mini update! Ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease! LOL!

Really, as long as the update reconfigures the I/O to pass audio through the mini-DisplayPort connection (like the new MacBook Pros and the iMacs), that's all I'd really want to buy one or two more minis. Oh, and a speedbump wouldn't hurt either! ;^)

This would definitely be good news as I'm holding out on spending any money on a potential HTPC to see what options are going to be out there.
