Adobe posts Flash Player 10.1 for Mac
At long last, Adobe has released Flash Player 10.1 for Mac OS X. There's a huge list of changes with this update; hopefully one will address "...the number one reason Macs crash."The major changes are aimed at developers, and include GPU hardware acceleration, support for dynamic quality during video streaming, dynamic sound generators, and upload/download functions in web apps. The 7.44MB download requires Safari, Firefox or Opera and Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Linux and Windows versions are also available now.

Thanks for the information shared here. that was an interesting and informative. I had a good experience by participating in the Adobe Summit in 2009 which features the latest developments on the Adobe Flash Platform that is of utmost importance to both developers, as well as designers.. I learnt lot of new technologies in Adobe. And I am planning to attend 2010 edition as well. I found the information about the conference from adobesummit.com

Way to go, Adobe.
I'm sure all 4 remaining fans of flash are excited.

June 11 2010 at 6:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyFlash 10.1 is indeed better than 10.0 - on everything except my 2010 MacBook Pro.
Instead of offering improved performance, full-screen video stutters with the Intel GPU - and doesn't trigger the discrete GPU (on the release 10.1). The Gala preview doesn't trigger the discrete GPU in many cases, even when the content is 720p.
When I manually switch my GPU to discrete, the new Flash 10.1 performs great - but I don't plan on leaving the discrete GPU on all the time just so Flash video plays better. Frustrating.
Are any other 2010 MacBook Pro readers experiencing the same problems?
anyone else notice that say you scrolling the TUAW page with the new flash 10.1 and you cursor goes over a youtube video (that is flash, not HTML5) your scrolling is stopped like you hit a brick wall. The only thing you can do to continue scrolling is to move your cursor off the flash object and your back on your way.
I noticed this with the "Gala" preview, which I uninstalled, and also when I installed Flash CS5. I did not know this but Flash CS5 installed 10.1 automatically. I uninstalled the 10.1 flash player and all was fixed.
I just want normal scrolling!!!!!
Didn't notice that. Flashblock FTW!

Hardware acceleration for Flash on the Mac? Not yet. When it lands, it'll warrant a firework show and champagne.
There is a preview release of "gala" that supposedly offers hardware acceleration for Mac.

Read the whole post. You have to fully uninstall any existing versions of Flash Player first.
You might want to mention in your article that it also patches the critical vulnerability in 10.0 announced last week here: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa10-01.html
For some, this aspect is likely to be more important than better video playback.
Until today the only fix for Mac users was to install a pre-release version of the 10.1 line which may not be the best thing to do in a production environment.
The timing makes me wonder if 10.1 for OS X is really ready for prime time and wasn't just pushed out the door to patch the vulnerability, given the current environment of somewhat nasty press in the Apple/Adobe "feud" or whatever.
