iSkin announces an iPad case for the germophobic
Are you a little OCD when it comes to germs? Do you feel like you need to wash your hands after you use your iPad? Did that report about the iPad screens in Apple Stores being hotbeds for assorted fungi and bacteria make you want to take a long, hot shower? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then iSkin has a new iPad case just for you. The only iPad case made with built-in Microban, the iSkin Duo (US$49.99) is a dockable case made from a hypoallergenic silicone that is given a finish to resist the tendency for cases of this type to collect dust and dirt particles.
The Duo has a colorful back with an embossed pattern and special side grips that make for sure handling of your iPad. There are a rainbow of colors to choose from: yellow, purple, brown, blue, pink, red, and clear.
To make sure that your fear of germs is negated, Microban is embedded into the silicone. This antimicrobial agent works constantly to kill fungi and bacteria that can cause staining and odors. Need to sterilize the case? You can wash it in hot water without distorting the shape and fit of the Duo.
iSkin also announced the new iSkin Vu line of cases, and both it and the Duo will be available within a few weeks at retail outlets and online.

Sounds like it was made for hospitals that were adopting it.
and re:"This case is bullshit. Everyone go out and lick a door handle in a public building!"
- enjoy your staph infection on your next visit. No antibiotics for you, you'll want to savor every necrotizing flesh devouring minute laughing-boy. Perhaps the surgeon will even take a dump in your chest cavity - nothing wrong with that right?
Let me guess - you think the universe is 6000 years old and photographs steal your soul. Go back to school - you fail.
You're just a bundle of happiness and rainbows aren't you.

According to MythBusters, the computer keyboard I'm using right now is more germ-filled than a toilet seat. Does that mean I shouldn't allow the keyboard graphic onto my iPad screen? Is it only infectious when the keyboard appears?
The fact that you can boil the case to sanitize it is pretty cool.

But my LORD. The prices of these things! The Vu is almost $70!!!
Reports of germs on iPad screens are silly. They could just as easily have drawn the same samples from any of the keyboards and trackpads on the laptops in the store. Or the iphones/ipods. Or the button on the water fountain, or handles of the doors to the store, etc.
What is it about the iPad in particular that makes people worry about germs?
That is exactly why I won't touch any of those things you mentioned. My iPad, however, I do.
