TUAW's Daily App: SimCity

I probably don't need to explain SimCity to you; it's one of the most classic PC games of all time, and Electronic Arts released it for the iPhone a while go. It's the same game you've played before; you can mark out zones in your city, draw out roads and buildings, and slowly build up your population as a mayor, keeping your people happy, supplied with utilities, and within reasonable distance of work and play.

So, why are we spotlighting it today? Along with most of EA's iPhone titles, its price has dropped down to just 99 cents. So, if you haven't picked it up yet, now's the time to do so (and it'll give you something to play on your brand new iPhone this week). Other titles to check out at just a buck, if you haven't gotten them yet, include Need for Speed, Command and Conquer, FIFA 10, Madden 10, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and the classic Dragon's Lair. Just think, buying them all will set you back $7, the same price as the full Rock Band title.

Looks like the sale in only in the US app store (or at least C&C is not on sale in the NZ one).

It's not in the UK one either. Shame!

Since when did TUAW become a gaming magazine? I love the concept of an app of the day but it would be great if there were an option of filtering game reviews out of TUAW's otherwise relevant news feed...

You and Jordan need to start up your own blog, call it iComplain.

I hope they put these on sale because of an upcoming iPad version of the games... I'm getting sick of using FullForce on Trivial Pursuit... it makes the board full screen, but the questions and such still only occupy an iPhone-sized corner of the screen.

I'm betting it's to bump their games up on the best sellers lists before all the new iPhone owners appear tomorrow...

If you read the reviews on the app store, this game crashes like crazy. Not worth the frustration in my book. And it looks like EA's not doing anything about it, they haven't updated it in a while.

I read reviews about it crashing too, but downloaded it anyway. I've had the game for as long as I've had my 3GS, about a year, and it has never crashed on me. It works surprisingly well on the platform, seriously addictive!

Yes it crashes. At least it did months ago before I couldn't stand it anymore. It's pretty buggy otherwise too. I stopped playing once the bugs started getting on my nerves.

It's worth 99 cents. Not the five bucks I paid.

Right now it's 99 cents. EA is having a 48 hour sale. Not sure when it started, though.

Oh how I wish they'd make one for the iPad. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
