iPhone 4 Bluetooth issues reported
While testing out the Jawbone Icon wireless Bluetooth headset recently, the parties I called complained of diminished sound quality on their end. They talked about overly compressed muffled sound, with decreased dynamic range. Over at the Jawbone end-user forums several threads have been discussing exactly that. Plantronics forums are reporting issues as well.Informal testing here at TUAW central with a couple of Jawbone units on both an iPhone 3GS as well as the iPhone 4 showed that the 3GS displayed none of the problems that the iPhone 4 is demonstrating.
It turns out that problem is not isolated to the unit I tested, let alone the manufacturer. At Apple's discussion forums, other Bluetooth headsets are apparently producing the same distortion effects when used with many iPhone 4 units.
An iPhone 4 antenna glitch may lie at the heart of this matter. A spokesperson for Aliph states, "We are aware of and concerned with the user frustration surrounding the issues affecting all Bluetooth devices (headsets, car kits, and speakers) connecting to the iPhone 4 and iOS4 updated phones. We know users have come to expect the freedom of hands-free and we are working night and day with our partners, Apple and AT&T, to resolve the issues as quickly as possible."
This appears to be another strike against what is clearly a troubled device.

A simple reset of the Network setting fixes this problem.
I had it to varying degrees with both an Icon and a Plantronics. The Network rest instantly (and seemly permanently) fixed it. Both work great now!
Seems like problem occurred after 4.01 update 4.02 didnt resolve it .Try resetting the network go to settings then general scroll to bottom hit reset then choose reset network settings then as an added precaution you might want to go to Bluetooth and forget your device and then re-pair it
The only thing missing after the reset was my wifi password, you have to retype it
This is not a small problem and apple has yet to address or even admitt this issue exist. If you call they will act like your the only one with the problem. My icon, blueant T1, jawbone II, and motorola motopure H15 all have simular problems. along with connecting and disconnecting while in my pocket, cant move 2ft from the phone and dimenished quality. all four of these headsets are premium and expensive. (I bought the blueant b/c I thought the others were broken). This is not just annoying but it is potentially dangerous while walking or driving and attempting to trouble shoot an unconnected call. Oh yeah not sure but it seems like the problem started around the time of the 4.01 update, others have noted that it took the phones about a month or so to develope the issue and that was aroung the time of the update.

I have dropped more calls in one day then I have in the past year with the "other" guys and because of complaints from my girlfriend Ive bought two different bluetooths and both work poorly when paired to iphone 4. I'm at my wits end. I'm seriously considering returning my iphone.

We use Blueparrot b250-xt headsets, are sound quality starts off bad but dose improve with time although it never becomes good.. The second issue is that if my headset is not connected to my phone before a call comes in and I try to connect it while it's ringing all hell breaks loose.. My set show connected but doesn't respond I can't go to audio sources and select it because it just goes right back to the phone or hangs up on the call in any event I have to take several measures in order to get my headset reconnected to my iPhone.. Starting with plugging my headset in to charger for at least 15 mins this only works part of the time, if that doesn't work then while it's plugged in I have to go to bluethooth settings and delete my headset do a full master reboot of the phone then go through the pairing proccess again to fix it.. Apple better take notice of this issue and fix it fast I never had these issues with my 3GS before the update !!!!!!
July 28 2010 at 10:19 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow frustrating - I'd return the iPhone4 and go back to my 3GS which had no Bluetooth issues (I'm having sound problems with every Bluetooth device I own w/the iPhone 4) - EXCEPT that I don't want to give up the screen resolution, and I don't want to leave the iPhone family and lose all of my app purchases, etc. I sure wish I was hearing some good news about Apple recognizing the problem and offering some hope on the horizon for a fix. Apple - ARE YOU LISTENING??? Do you care? Or will you eventually lose a for-now faithful customer?

Steve was so proud of his antenna and its not doing anything more than holding phone together after being shot by a 50cal.

July 14 2010 at 7:47 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIts not just Jawbone and Blue tooth issues. I've had every iphone to date and this one just sucks when it comes to bluetooth and wired headsets. I used a Ear Set 1 (wired headset) from Bang & Olufsen with my 3GS and had no problems what so ever when i tried it with the iphone 4 people could not stand to have a conversation with me so I had to settle for their dinky head set that comes with the iphone. I also tried the awesome bluetooth headset from Bang & Olufsen which didn't work with the 3GS until ios4 came along according to B&G, however it has severe issues with the iphone 4...dropped calls, echos, faint sound quality which is very atypical for headsets from B&G. As far as I can tell when you plug in a wired device you should not have any sound issues so the only thing that i can attribute these audio problems to is the antenna which Apple says is not an issue. I beg to differ.I wish Apple which just step up and fix the damn design flaw.
July 14 2010 at 3:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have a iPhone 4 and a Jawbone Prime. I have noticed the horrible difference from my iPhone 3G to my iPhone 4. Everytime I connect, it gives fuzzy LOUD feedback in my ear, it is muffled in my ear during calls, plus my friends say that it is staticy and muffled on their end.
I actually thought it was my jawbone battery dying or something, but after a charge it is the same. glad to hear im not the only one!
Although I love that now i can hear my ringtone in my ear (instead of do do do-do), the bad thing is wait until your on a call and your alarm goes off. I almost ended up down an embankment when it happened to me. The alarm was so blaring loud it hurt my ear!
