Apple's Magic Trackpad approved by FCC

We've seen the Magic Trackpad name before, and we've even gotten a glimpse of what the device might be -- a larger, Bluetooth-enabled multitouch surface designed to bring all of the gestural and multitouch capability found on the iDevices and MacBooks to the desktop itself. Now, Engadget notes that it appears the FCC has approved testing of such a device for Apple -- a "Bluetooth trackpad" that's reportedly set for production. The testing was actually done in October of last year, but FCC filings have risen into public view, which means that Apple could finally unveil the device as soon as later this week.

Not much is known about the actual device (with the model number A1339), but presumably it would be used as a larger touch surface for Bluetooth-enabled computers. Does that mean Apps on the Mac, or, at the very least, actual multitouch testing for iPhone development? We'll have to wait and see.

Since I got my 2008 MBP, I've wanted a gesture trackpad for the Mac. I think it will be great! I actually like the magic mouse and the gestures, but the track pad will be better. I'd have both connected and use each for different tasks...

Coupling this post with the 3" canvas picture posted a week or however long back makes for interesting thoughts.

I hope it's better than the Magic mouse. I hate that thing: it must be the most 'unergonomic' mouse I have ever used. Looks way cool though.

Form over function ;-)

Is it because of how much you need to move your hand to use it?

I think it's because it's too flat. It actually hurt my wrist. But as I said, beautiful :)
I returned it and got a Mighty mouse instead. How stupid can I be: I know the scroll ball will get stuck in a couple of months.

Would love to see a trackpad integrated into the Apple BT KB, on the right side where the num pad would be (like a DiNovo Edge, subbing the crap round trackpad for a big MBP-esque trackpad).

And people are worried that Apple has forgotten the Mac. I think this Magic TrackPad would be awesome when you're using a 27" iMac as a TV. I use an iPhone with TouchPad right now.

I wonder if this could be marketed with a new AppleTV with a web browser, that would require a onscreen mouse?
