iLife '10 book cover pulled from Amazon France, iWork '10 book shows up on Amazon Germany

We reported yesterday on an iLife '10 for Dummies book that appeared on Amazon France. The book was set for release on September 23rd, suggesting an updated iLife software release on or around that date. Twenty-four hours later the book's title and cover has been removed from Amazon France, yet "iLife '10" still remains in the book's description.
Today, reader Flo from Germany notified us that she discovered an iWork '10 book on Amazon Germany. The iWork book is titled iWork 10: From Zero to Hero and is set for release on October 10. We've also found the same book on Amazon France. Apple has traditionally released updated versions of iLife and iWork at or around the same time. Given that this is the second book (from a separate publisher) that seems to corroborate that updated iLife and iWork suites are in the works, it's looking increasingly likely that we can expect them by the fall. It's been seventeen months since both iLife '09 and iWork '09 were released in January 2009.

Has anyone looked at an iLife box in last 6 months? Apple has stated they are not using the year at the end of iLife or iWork anymore.
Why would they then go back and do it for '10 or '11. They won't. There will be a new iLife out, but it will most likely just be called iLife or iLife 6 or something.
I don't know about Apple specifically because I've never tested software for them, but other private beta programs I've participates in always included authors. From that I'd assume it's the same with Apple. What shocks me is that TUAW really doesn't have any sources of it's own that can confirm iLife/iWork '10/11. Oh and usually the UI gets frozen a few MONTHS before release so the authors can safely grab thier screen shots (drives meninsane the number of UI glitches that get left in because development teams refuse to change things on thier in-house and 3rd party writers).
But... all the cover showing up on Amazon suggests is that another version is coming someday... Could be next week could be next year... Frankly I'm not clear why anyone would bother reporting it without ANY details to go with it.
I'm not sure this is much of an indicator. I remember hearing that the authors of these books often simply write 90% of the book before the product is released, and then when the product is actually announced, they fill in any details about new features, etc.
For example, iPhone 4 for dummies could have probably been written and published before the thing even came out, because all the important guides and tips are the same for the 3GS.
I wonder how many people will buy the new versions because they're really impressed with the new features, as opposed to the people who buy them simply because they're new software from Apple.

July 22 2010 at 1:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'd be curious how they think they'll get another $50 from me, there are so many random bugs and crashes in iPhoto 09 that should have been fixed before they pile on new features that I'm very skeptical of any new software.

You really do have to watch yourself. Starting any post with 'Um,' just tells us how imature you are.
I wonder if they wouldn't just go ahead and call it iLife '11, though. Remember that iLife '08 actually came out in August 2007.
July 21 2010 at 2:34 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyExactly. Perhaps the books got the version # wrong and Apple will be updating iLife and iWork suites this fall. But they will be called iLife '11 and iWork '11, not '10. That said, I look forward to iMovie '11 (the only app in iLife and iWork that I use on a regular basis)
