TUAW's Daily App: Dungeon Hunter

In accordance with an ongoing sale, Gameloft has the title priced at just 99 cents. For cheap action gaming thrills on the iPhone, things don't get much better than that. There's no word on exactly how long the game will be so cheap, but if the idea of a portable Diablo clone appeals to you, open this treasure chest right away.

Gameloft's Dungeon Hunter is probably the best Diablo-esque action RPG on the App Store right now -- it looks great, and plays just about...

I like the game and I'm surprised that here aren't more like it.
One issue I have is that if they're going to make an attempt at letting you play music from your library in game, why not just let iTunes play over the sound effects effects like other games rather than implementing a crappy music player that takes up screen real estate.
Also, while the story line is good, it would have been a better idea to leave it open ended and sell new levels as in app purchases. I replayed it as different classes but I would have payed for new levels. I think they missed the boat on that one.
But all in all I think I got more bang for my buck (5 bucks to be exact) in playtime than any other game I've bought. Except for Plants vs. Zombies maybe.
It's a great game. However, because of the lack of a manual save game option, it really needs updating to support iOS4 multitasking. Nothing more annoying than getting almost to the end of a level only to have someone call you - and then find yourself back at the beginning of the level after you finish the call :( It's things like this that make a good case for adding multi-tasking support to games.
@Anthony Usher: Was it Untold Legends on the PSP? I played that to death :)
It certainly was Untold Legends, thanks. It was my first taste of that genre and a very good game which I also played to death until I sold my PSP.

July 21 2010 at 8:20 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI paid full price for this a while ago. Never regretted it. I played through it as each of the 3 different characters, and will likely go back to it again in the future. One of the best games I've played on the iPhone.
Easily worth a buck.
