Vaja introduces new iPhone 4 cases

Yes, you're getting a bumper for free, but why not wrap your iPhone 4 in something a little more stylish and original? Vaja has released a line of its great premium leather gadget cases for the iPhone 4 -- I love these things, as they're made out of high-quality premium leather, and add an extra little bit of class to a device that already feels like a luxury phone.

I do have to say that I don't really like that flap -- I use a Vaja case on my iPod, and in that case, the magnetically-fastened flap comes in handy, since I don't usually have my iPod open. But on the iPhone, I interact with the touchscreen so much that the flap would get in the way. But Vaja also has some excellent cases (like the iVolution Grip) that just slide onto the iPhone and stay out of your way.

They're not cheap -- the Grip runs $65, and they go up from there. But they are a quality product. While the bumper cases are all right, if you want something really nice to wrap your iPhone in, give Vaja's cases a look.

I read a piece about companies like Vaja which said that the fine leathers they use come from baby animals and the massive demand for fine phone cases is causing extreme cruelty on a huge scale. I seems that pregnant cows and other animals are also killed; their young are literally cut from their stomachs, often still alive, as their skins are extremely fine. Apparently, fine leather just can't come from the meat we eat. I have to say that i was saddened and shocked by the article and it made me question whether we really need to cause so much misery and suffering for a stupid phone case. Especially as there are SO many designs which don't use this kind of material. Why not look elsewhere? I will be. (and Apple are giving away a really well made case, which doesn't cover up the beautiful thing you've just bought!

nsk, Leo M:

I would say that the "wear" you see on the case is the case doing its job of protecting the phone. That's what I want the case for, and the scars are battle scars showing it's doing its job.

If you want it to look nice, you need a case that's made from something other than leather, I guess.

Alas, Vaja is apparently not planning to introduce any iPhone 4 cases with belt clips. I've had them with a belt clip for my original iPhone and for the 3GS I got last year, and really like them.

Fortunately, the original iPhone case fits the iPhone 4 almost perfectly. I suspect the 3GS case will work with the iPhone 4 in a bumper, but won't know that until I get a bumper and try it.

I'll always choose from the range at http://www.pielframa.com/.
Having had one since my 2G I can honestly say they offer the best cases you can buy, and great service too.

I had a Vaja case for about six months for my iPhone 3G, and I found that it looks a lot better than it works.

Pluses:
- very pretty
- nicely built
- smells good for a week or so
- the photos on their website configurator pretty much match what you get

Minuses:
- adds a lot of bulk
- wear and tear doesn't add "character" to the leather, but rather just shreds it
- no longer tightly held the phone after months of use
- expensive
- had to wait a long time for it

For my iPhone 4, I'm staying with the bumper.

I'm with "nsk" on this one. I've had two of these cases and they are not a quality product. They look really nice but are very susceptible to every day wear and tear.

I wouldn't recommend this product unless you never use your phone, ever.

Where are you seeing a magnetic flap? I have their case for my iPhone 3G and there is no magnet, the curved part at the end of the flap just grips on the end.
My Vaja case is the best case out there, btw. It's kept my 3G in perfect condition and I will be getting one for my iPhone 4.
