Software Update: Magic Trackpad and Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.0

Apple released the Magic Trackpad this morning, but the OS update to make it work with your Mac is out now, available via Software Update on your Mac (drop down the Apple menu on the left if you've never done this before). Here's the link for a download of the update.

This update also enables three-finger drag gesture and inertial scrolling for older Mac portables listed on this support page for the update. Something our own Chris Rawson pointed out was possible.

Oh, and there's a new Preference pane! From Apple's page:

This update also installs a Trackpad System Preferences pane for configuring Magic Trackpad on Intel-based Mac desktop computers that support Mac OS X v10.6.4 and above.

If you find anything wonky, let us know in the comments (and report the bug to Apple as well).

after the recent trackpad update, every hour or so the trackpad acts as being constantly clicked- if I move the cursor around, it highlights text, moves icons, etc. Very annoying. After clicking it a bunch of times after a minute or two it goes back to normal, until the next time.
If I deactivate the "tap to click" option, it seems everything ok but as soon as i activate it again it restarts...

I already tried restarting, cleaning the cache, repairing permissions, starting with option-command-p-r but NOTHING fixes it permanently.. it works well for a while, then it starts getting crazy again...

When I installed the update it caused my bluetooth to stay on all the time. I had to archive and reinstall just so I could turn it off.

Where do I enable the 3 finger drag?
I have a fairly new i5 MBP.

I installed the Magic Trackpad and Multi-Touch Update this morning on my late 2009 13inch MacBook Pro. Since then, the trackpad has a mind of its own. Its like there's a ghost finger randomly sliding and clicking. And it gets worse when I start Mail.

Any suggestions? I've rebooted several times.

Thanks!

Trish

Same problem with mine. You think it's the inertia scrolling option? I had to restart my MB. It's been okay for an hour; I hope it doesn't act up ever again

The update did show up on my MBP but not on my iMac which I would imagine to be the major market for it.

Anyone know why?

You don't have the Magic Trackpad?

Bizarrely, the boot camp update seems to only have been released for XP and Vista. So if you're running up-to-date Windows software, you're out of luck for now.

I don't like the lack of white Macbook love. I was almost going to trek to the Apple store tomorrow, but now I want to see somebody post what features I really do get on a white Macbooks from 2007 - 2009. Apple is killing off another cash cow selling these to the folks (owners of older white Macbooks) that would be most likely to plunk down the small money to get these.

@mad102190

I uploaded the extensions and pref files; I compressed them into a ZIP archive.

Here's the link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/530052/Various/Apple%20Mutl-Touch%20stuff.zip

I'm interesting to see if this works, good luck!

I'll be happy to upload the files. Give a sec while I get them from my sister's MBP.
