League of Legends for Mac still expected this fall

You might remember that, back in early June, I met with the guys from Riot Games to play the Mac version of their free-to-play, DotA title, League of Legends. At the time, they said that they expected to release the title on our platform sometime "later this year," after they'd finished up their work with the big Season One update. Now, however, Season One has been out for a little while, and our readers are getting a little antsy -- where's LoL for the Mac?

Riot tells us that it's still coming. The game did get delayed longer than expected, but in an official statement, we're told that they "are putting some final touches on the Mac product and expect to ship by this fall." Season One was the priority, even while we were being shown the preview for the Mac version, but "now that it's out," Riot says, "we can focus on finalizing the Mac client and other upcoming features."

That sounds good. Since I first played the game for that preview, I've become a big fan; it's a quality version of the Defense of the Ancients mod for Warcraft III, and the fact that it's free to play on the PC (or in Bootcamp, if you can't wait any longer) is just icing on the cake. We'll keep an eye out for the Mac release and let you know when it's ready.

I get this error message: "You must first create a Summoner by logging into League of Legends before logging into our website."

However, I can't create a Summoner since I'm on a Mac and LoL isn't ported to mac yet.

Is there another possible way to see the Mac Testing forums?

Sorry, i forgot to mention that you need to sign up for an account first, THEN click on the first link to be able to enter the forum. Otherwise, you just get redirected to the front page.

So sign up for an account at https://signup.leagueoflegends.com/?ref=4bde2b8c88b2f

Log in (at the top mid to top right portion of the front page), then go to

http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=230606

The first post by RiotChris gives you the DL links to the beta client and Adobe Air, which is needed to run the game.

Can't we just get a date? all this mystery! So I've waited a little while for since they said end of the summer. Fine. Just tell me a date so I don't have to look all over the internet in hopes to find a release date...

Riot has opened Beta testing already for the Mac:

I'm playing it on my Mac and I haven't had any major problems with it. I'm actually very impressed with the current Mac version; I was expecting it to be a lot worse.

I'd love for them to release even an early beta of the Mac client. I hate doing anything on my PC anymore so I hardly ever get to play LoL.

They're hiring Transgaming to do the Mac version, so you can rest assured it will still be in an early beta state when it comes out (and forever after that).

League is hella fun. My boyfriend got me into it, when I had never played Dota or Hon. And I would rather play LoL since HoN is no longer free.

Why not just play Heroes of Newerth? Better than League of Legends.. and has always ran on Mac OS X, Linux and Windows?

To be honest? The dota community Split into 3 parts in this past year. 1 part just gave up and moved on, 1 part went to play League, and 1 part went to play HoN. Heroes of Newerth took the worst of the dota community, those who were stat mongering, noob hating, team raging, selfish players. I played HoN. It was cool. The community Kills it. League has a better community, and while the competitive nature of some of the players makes blood boil high, the mods manage to keep it okay. There is a code of Conduct you agree to to play League. Its not super fancy, just be tolerable and respectful. Any people blatantly breaking it can be reported and the account is looked at and possible suspended based on mods disgression.

HoN's community and being forced to pay to play is the reasons People don't play HoN.
