Some sites still selling third-party Apple accessories

Ok, ok, it's not exactly news that there is Apple gear being sold on the Internet. But given that popular electronic accessory retailer Monoprice recently decided to stop selling Apple accessories, you might be looking for a new place to buy your cords and hookups. That's right -- TUAW contacted Monoprice the other day after a few readers reported that they couldn't buy iPhone and iPod-related gear, and Monoprice confirmed that it has "decided to suspend offering these products as part of our business plan. We will let you know if and when we resume selling these products. Truly sorry for any inconvenience it may cause you."

Bummer. Fortunately, we also received word earlier this week that competitor Cable Wholesale is selling unofficial Apple gear, and their prices look to be competitive if not at least equal to the cheap costs that led us to Monoprice in the first place. Even if you don't want to buy from them, but still need an AV cable or a car charger without paying through the nose for official products, there are still sites online selling what you need.

I've purchased a bunch of things from Monoprice and never had a problem with credit cards. They're cheap and usually good. But a few things aren't.

But I noticed a charger for iPad that looks a lot like the Apple one. No logo, but looks just the same. Right down to the fine print that includes " (c) Apple 2010"

This might have been, shall we say, somewhat unwise.

Before you write a report stating monprice isn't selling them anymore maybe you should do a quick search on their site to see if they are or not. http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=iphone&x=0&y=0 Been back up for over a week now. iPhone 4 cases in now too!

Maybe you should do a more extensive search before putting down TUAW. Can't find items that used to be sold on monoprice, like iPhone cables and external battery packs.

Go on eBay if you need accessories. I'm always able to find what I need there. Monoprice had great prices but poor customer service.

I could care less about Monoprice. I ordered once from them and six months later they informed customers that our credit card information was compromised. One trip later to the bank and two plain tickets to Dublin confirmed that my credit card was one of the ones that was compromised. I contacted them and not so much as a return apology. I don't care who the company is that is just awful business. Which is disappointing, because I really liked saving on cables, now I have to look elsewhere.

i recommend *not* buying from monoprice for anything.. last time i did, my credit card number was stolen and the company never contacted me, simply wrote a little apology on their site. id rather pay apple's high prices then deal with some skeevy company like monoprice.com

Anyone have a decent source for Appleish earbuds with a mic? I've got a nicer pair, but my dog loves to eat these things. I used to buy 5-10 at a time from monoprice- they were good quality but cheap enough that I didn't mind coming home once a week to a pair in my pup's mouth.

Hm.. Would protective screens count as accessories, cause this was on their home page: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10831&cs_id=1083105&p_id=7094&seq=1&format=2

Wow. That's a bunch of crap. I love my 9 foot long Monoprice charging cable.

This is bizarre. Seriously - Apple's trying to shut down all resellers of all accessories? (Is that actually confirmed? Or is Monoprice the only one to mysteriously remove them? Perhaps they have a problem with their supplier.) If Apple's trying to take down every vendor of accessories, that's akin to the Pope trying to shut down every other religion, or NBC trying to shut down all other networks.

The combined price of the 3 foot usb cable, and the little wall plug thing to charge your iphone is 50 dollars from the apple store. You can do that with about 4.75 from monoprice (could, i mean) That's probably apples biggest markup, the accessories.

All of you are wrong on some level.

1) apple is not stopping anyone from making accessories. This one company decided to stop

2) the USB charger for $29 comes with a USB cable do it's not $50

3) ever heard of a little thing called a headphone jack? Also you don't need a dock. Just get the AV cables that apple and other people sell
