A barrel of free books from Kaplan makes a great back-to-school haul

Kaplan Publishing is offering quite a few free eBooks through the iTunes store, but you can only access them on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. It's a great deal if you're heading back to school or just want to stock up on some quality reference material.

The books are in the categories of college prep, graduate studies, law, medicine, nursing and education. The book are free from now until August 30.

Kaplan first became well known to students preparing for SAT and other exams such as the GRE, GMAT, LSAT and many others. The company then expanded into publishing on many education topics.

Among the many books that are being offered are titles like First Year Teacher, SOS: Stressed out Student Guide to Dealing with Tests, Get into Medical School, Kaplan GRE Exam Verbal Workbook, Kaplan SAT Writing Workbook and Law School Labyrinth.

There are a lot more. If you'd like to see what's available and download some books, go to this URL, (kaplanpublishing.com/itunes) but you must do it from your mobile device. It won't work from iTunes from a desktop or laptop. Check the gallery for some sample titles, and start getting ready for that first semester.

Ok, what the hell is going on? It's flashing a "loading" screen and going insane. Never seen anything like it. Couldn't get this thing to work.

Update: So it had to take Caleb to point out that you need to download the free iBooks app FIRST in the App Store before all this can work. Duh! Kaplan apparently haven't even tested this before they rolled it out. (/slap)

the ibookstore needs to be accessible from outside the ibook app so that authors can link to their titles instead of having to tell folks to go to the app on the idevice and then search. it's very awkward and unapple. also, the store needs a better interface. currently it is not possible to enter many sections that the store actually supports. so much potential. if they don't patch kindle and nook store will zip pass the ibookstore and it will become a was

A fantastic find, indeed. The medical section has a wide range of selections. It not only has the anticipated MCAT prep info, which thankfully I am past,
but also a very interesting range of books on the history of medicine. I downloaded most of what is there and look forward to reading them.

This is a cool find. But you've got to download iBooks first, otherwise things will go a bit haywire.
