New iPod commercials now on Apple.com and YouTube

You saw them in the keynote today, now watch them again in the privacy of your own home: the new iPod touch and iPod nano television ads are live on Apple.com and on Apple's YouTube channel. "All kinds of fun," indeed.

(If you're a fan of NBC's Chuck, like some of us are, you may appreciate that Cake's Short Skirt/Long Jacket -- the show's theme song -- is featured in the new nano ad.)

It's actually quite surprising that (a) Steve Jobs is ultra-involved in Apple's advertising and (b) their methods are actually ultra-traditional.

I was somewhat dismissive of the iPod nano update yesterday but seeing it in action, I'm actually impressed and would consider trading up from my shuffle. Alas my shuffle which is 3 years old is still going quite strong....

The iPod Nano had grown to become a video recorder/player, but this version throws that out.

Was it because nobody ever used their video recorder, or something equally damning?

Too bad. My Nano 5 has become my favorite stealth recorder. I was rather hoping they'd get it up to 720p this version (or half-HD's 540p) with a little on-board editing.

Instead, it's gone completely. And that reenforces my opinion that the Nano 5 is Apple's highest-tech achievement to date.
