Apple photoshops iPhone into iPod touch

The careful readers at Engadget have noticed that Apple cut a few corners (so to speak) on its website documentation for the latest iPod touch. There's no ear speaker or phone service on the device, obviously, but nevertheless Apple's iPod touch display units show that the Phone app is still sitting down there in the lower left corner. Searching in Spotlight, according to another screenshot, will bring up the text messaging app, and there's one more little mistake (look in the Travel folder to see if you can spot it).

Apple has since updated the images on its website, but it's good to know that not even Apple's copywriters get their hands on the devices before we do. They apparently have to Photoshop it all together, and then preorder and wait for their devices just like us common folk.

What is the top left icon in the travel folder. Looks like a music note?

In the pic where the ipods are laying on top of each other. My opinion is that it looks like the renderer was trying to simulate the bottom one reflecting on the top one and then re-reflecting it back down.

In the image on the bottom one's back you can see the edge of the bottom one on the reflection of the top one. Man this is hard to type.

Oh well, Not really a big deal but thats what I see.

Did anyone stop to think for a moment that the phone app might be present in order to bring FaceTime to the iPod Touch?

You're both wrong.

It's a big stuff up, if you look at Engadget, to show the Phone ap on an iPod touch page.

Another mistake is at iOS 4.1 update info page. Apple put TV show rentals stuff under Ping and not Videos on the iTunes.app

The images in question are still there. Which leads me to believe that either it was a goof, or it is intentional. We won't know the answers to any of that until people get the new iPod touch in their hands within the next couple of days.

Also, I will not hesitate to mention that Steve Jobs himself positioned the iPod touch as "the iPhone without the phone"... or the contract. I think it's intentional, because they've NEVER mentioned the iPod touch as being the iPhone without the phone OR a contract on an official basis until now. They positioned the last two iPod touches as game machines solely.

So why is that? My theory is that Apple has finally figured out what we in the Apple fan sphere have known for years.

Apple still seems to have a lapse in their 3D imaging work.

They must be in the middle of updating. On the UK site, the 2 pictures are missing entirely at this moment.

Seriously. Photoshopping screens onto devices is hardly a new practice or unique to Apple in any way. Most screens - even the retina display - dont photograph very well, so its usually more reliable to add in the display contents in post, not to mention the fact its WAY cheaper to create a couple different stock positions, then swap out screen contents as needed.

This is about as newsworthy as a typo.
