Retro new iPhone dock has pricey, film noir feel

iretrophoneIf you're feeling nostalgic and have US$250 burning a hole in your pocket, perhaps we've found the iPhone dock for you.

The iRetrophone Skyliner, designed by artist Scott Freeland, is a retro-style iPhone dock (compatible with 3G, 3GS, and iPhone 4) within a custom-designed, old-style desktop telephone. The iPhone connects via a standard connector within the dock, providing charging power and a working handset -- yes, the handset works.

Combine this dock with the aptly-named iRetroPhone iPhone app, and your iPhone retro-izing is complete. But for $250? They lost me there.

Ive been checking these out every few months over the past year or more, whenever anyone mentions it again. And I simply can't believe they charge that much for a hunk of resin that isn't even fitted specifically for the device you own. Whether you have an EDGE iPhone or a 3GS or a 4, you get the same thing for $250. Seriously, if I'm gonna shell out that kind of money for mindless kitsch, I want that sh*t to fit like a glove.

Really? 'cause I figure the more like a glove it fits, the less likely it will fit the next phone I buy...

At $250 I would hope it lasts me 2 or 3 phones not be an "instant hand me down"

That may make sense for you, but if I were to buy this thing it would be specifically for an already-handed-down device like my old EDGE iPhone or the 3GS I replaced this year, to set up as a no-muss-no-fuss Skype phone.

On second thought, Windows Phone 7 will be the real multi-touch of evil...

This could inspire someone to remake the classic "Touch of Evil" as "Multi-Touch of Evil." Or not.

Yeah comes with a dash mount for your PT Cruiser. Ugly, clunky, I cringe at seeing the "made for iPhone" tag on that... :-p
