Safari updated to 5.0.2

The good news is, the Safari 5.0.2 update fixes a passel of bugs and outstanding security issues. The bad news: like all Safari updates, which replace the underlying Webkit framework used by many Mac OS X apps to render HTML, this 39 MB update requires a restart. There's also a 4.1.2 update for users still on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

Apple's notes on the update say that it "contains improvements to compatibility and security" including:
  • Fixes an issue that could prevent users from submitting web forms
  • Fixes an issue that could cause web content to display incorrectly when viewing a Google Image result with Flash 10.1 installed
  • Establishes an encrypted, authenticated connection to the Safari Extensions Gallery

Sadly, Safari 5.0.2 is still dog slow. It might be slightly better than 5.0.1, but it is absurdly slow compared to Safari 4 on the same hardware.

Not everyone seems to have this problem, but many of us do, and it's a deal-breaker.

I can't believe that Firefox seems fast now compared to Safari 5...

I've always had a small issue, when using safari, and the infamous beach ball crashing on me. Usually it would just be once every few days when trying to use the google search toolbar. Annoying but I could live with it. After updating to 5.0.2 Safari has crashed on me three times in the last hour.

I'm going to try using chrome, for now, but I really did like Safari as my primary browser. Anyone have any suggestions on how to cure the "Beach Ball"
crashing problem?

Same thing here on 10.5.8, it freezes the whole machine, only multiple force quits get out of the loop. its so bad i've uninstalled it, and all plug ins. done a reinstall, same problem, complete trainwreck.

so its now in the trash waiting for 5.0.3. i swear this is the worst update since the days of mac IE, and i'm forced to use chrome as a result. has apple been infiltrated by google employees or something?

sort it out apple, the quality of your mac apps are getting worse by the year.

I just installed iTunes 10 and then the next day Safari 5.0.2. Now not much will run.

iTunes dies upon launch. As does Numbers, Keynote, InDesign CS4, Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, iPhoto.

Programs that run: BusyCal, NeoOffice, VLC.

Looks like I'm taking today off from work trying to sort this out.

Anyone else enjoying these fixes?

I too was in beach ball territory with Safari for most of the time (no extensions running). This week I switched to Chrome, to see if I can get used to it. For my job I need to work in different content management systems, so it's important things work smoothly.

So far, no problems though. It is FAST (though Safari was as well, to be honest) and for some reason it seems the switch to Chrome really helped diminish the annoying 'channel exception errors' that kept freezing my Mac.

I've switched to Opera, and no beach balls. These guys were the original lean & mean browser.

Funny, it doesn't render www.apple.com correctly anymore. The main part of the webpage is left justified, but the rest are centered.

Does this fix the issue with the address bar being stupid?

Dude, I hope they have made Safari 5 stop beachballing! At first I thought Extensions was the issue but Safari 5 continues to beachball even after extensions are turned off!

What's wrong here?

So far, it's being pretty snappy for me. Hopefully, I'm not speaking too soon though

i dont care about anything that they released i just care that they made the browser faster than 5.0 because it was slow as a turtle, and also that they fixed the search bar because it is not doing its job properly or as it used to do with 4
