TUAW's Daily App: Texto SMS Favorites

The app's only 99 cents, but I'll admit it's not for everybody. If you don't text a whole lot already, you probably don't need a whole other app to handle your most frequently-sent messages. And obviously, sending a pre-written message is a little impersonal. Your significant other might realize you're blowing them off the fifth time you send a "Sorry, I'm busy, call you soon," message to them. There's one other caveat: you can only use this one in iOS 4.0, due to the way it interacts with the SMS app.
For the right user, Texto can be really helpful, and it's got the bonus of having a great and simple interface that's free of ads and clutter.

There are a lot of weird texting applications for the iPhone, and some of them are pretty hinky in terms of design or function. But Texto...

This has the same functionality as SMS Templates. However SMS Templates also supports iPhones even on iOS 3.1.3. $0.99 as well. http://bit.ly/smstemplates

September 07 2010 at 6:22 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat a bunch of self-righteous posts we have here. There's nothing wrong with sending a quick blurb requiring two taps at a stop light. Enough with the crusader agenda. I bet you people are vegetarians, too.
September 07 2010 at 1:15 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf I come across as self-righteous because I come down hard on everyone who admits to using their phone in the car, it's because my friend is now paralyzed from the waist down - because he was hit by a driver sending a text message and not looking at the road. My friend is lucky in that he's still alive.
Don't use your phone in the car if you're in the driver's seat.
Ever.
put the phone in the glovebox when you get in the car, and apologise for being late when you arrive. when you apologise, make it clear that you were driving "sorry i didn't get your call/txt, i was driving and don't use my phone when i'm in the car".
my friends and family all know my phone lives in my glove box when i'm in my car, so if i don't answer my phone when they call they know why i haven't answered. the glove box has the advantage that you can't hear when you get a call or txt, so you aren't even tempted to use your phone until you stop.
the only time my phone isn't in the glovebox is when there's a passenger to answer it or reply to a txt for me.
being drunk while driving is safer than using a phone while driving. don't do either.
for some reason, searching for Texto in the app store, the app does not show up high on the list. Searching for the full title 'Texto SMS Favorites' did the trick. I think this app will save me a lot of time!
