Official Etch A Sketch case makes iPad even more attractive to your kids
We've seen just about every type of iDevice case ever made, but this one takes the prize for originality.Based on the famous Ohio Art Etch A Sketch magic screen drawing slate, the Etch A Sketch iPad Case ($39) from Headcase is very realistic looking, down to the cheesy gold paint on the logo. The case should be realistic, as it is officially licensed by Ohio Art.
There are some differences between the case and the real Etch A Sketch: the white knobs won't act as cursor control on your cursor-less iPad, the case has a couple of indentations for the ambient light detector and home button, and the battery life on the original Etch A Sketch is much better. Oh, and the original Etch A Sketch is $17.99, while an iPad costs considerably more.
Check out the gallery below for more shots of this clever iPad case.

A childhood toy and an adult toy combined in one. And as what I've read there's more to this case, it isn't just cool as how we see it but it's specially designed to protect and enhance an iPad. The case comes with rubber feet allowing it to be elevated whilst using it on a table. Awesome.

Pffffft...
Give me an iPad Stand made from Tinker Toys!
(beginning the process of copyrighting that NOW).

And their website ordering portion is down, presumably due to all the blog hype. If it's under $40, I'd buy one and sell my Dodocase.

September 21 2010 at 8:12 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt even comes with a pre-punch hole for the 2nd gen. iPad with front-facing camera.
Or is there some sort of ambient light sensor at that spot?

Some sort of ambient light sensor, according to the text of the article.

Well .. looks pretty cool/geeky that thing.

I wish the knobs worked. And you could hold it upside down and shake it to clear the screen.
That'd be a pretty intense case; it'd have to have a dock connector and an associated app. My guess is that this will sell a few thousand to impulsive nostalgics. No chance the investment required for what you're describing could ever be recouped.
September 21 2010 at 9:31 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think kids of today won't know what an Etch-a-Sketch is, any more than they know what a rotary dial phone or an 8-track stereo is. Only those of us who grew up in the 70's will be pleased, though. I love it!
September 20 2010 at 9:15 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDon't be hatin', those of us who grew up in the 80's remember Etch-A-Sketch too! I loved those things... If anything, anyone who has seen Toy Story 2 will at least recognize it.
