Griffin's Woogie turns iPhone into a plush

When I was a kid, we just played with regular stuffed animals, and then Teddy Ruxpin came along and blew us all away. But kids these days, they get all kinds of cool stuff. Like look at this thing: they can stick an iPod touch in a "huggable plush accessory" called the Woogie, and run around with it to their heart's content, watching videos, playing with apps, and, I don't know, checking the weather, or whatever else it is that kids want to do on an iPod touch.

I especially like Griffin's selling point on this one -- this case is a bonus for the kids, who get a piece of technology that's a little more fluffy and friendly than Apple's sleek designs. It's a bonus for parents too, as it's much harder to lose or seriously break the iPod when it's wrapped in the big mass of furry green tentacles.

The $20 accessory even comes with its own app, where kids can preview Sesame Street books and, oh I don't know, check the weather or something. If I sound a little bitter, it's probably because I am: Teddy Ruxpin never ran Pocket Frogs for me.

It's a good idea. I'm waiting for Teddy Ruxpin to make a comback. The tech is right for it. If they can make intelligent Elmo dolls, why not Ruxpin?

I like how the music is very reminiscent of the original iPhone ads, down to the final chord. The whole presentation is very Applesque. If Griffin didn't make such inconsistent products, I'd even consider getting one...

We just got one of these for our daughter (she's 2 and a half). She absolutely loves it. The one we got has a faulty speaker though, so Griffin is sending us a new one.

See the dog carrying it? See the girl running with it? See the girl on the swing, leaving the plushy on the porch?

No thanks. I will never understand why adults enjoy giving their phones to their kids so much.

It's fantastic that they're great learning devices, but when I have kids, I'm getting them kid durable toys.

The only way they will get an iPhone or iPod Touch is when they can afford it with their own money, because then they will treat it with kid gloves, or in this case, kid plushies.

You don't have kids yet so you don't understand. As much as you try to hide your expensive toys, they know about them, find them and want them. They're relentless and as a tired parent, you give eventually give in and pray they don't test the theory of gravity with your expensive stuff. Which they do despite your grovelling to the almighty.

But this thing has the potential to actually solve your problem by providing some decent protection for it. I'll be picking one up and trying it out. $20 is worth an experiment if it save my $400 phone.

If you wait until they can afford it with their own money they won't have the skills to use the gadget.

If you engage them with the gadget asap sure you will void your warranties but they will learn how to handle gadgets quite quickly and end up inventing new gadgets which is the goal surely..

Well either that or ninja legend
