Software Update: iTunes 10.0.1 brings Ping to your music library

One new feature is the Ping Sidebar, which appears when you're in your library. As seen below, Ping Sidebar shows the recent activity of your friends or artists you follow in a easily-accessed sidebar on the right side of the screen.

An update to iTunes answers the question a lot of us have had since iTunes 10 hit the streets: why can't I use Ping to like or post about...

if you want to revert to iTunes 10 w/Genius sidebar, sans Ping, use the direct download at http://bit.ly/dnZDTx (delete application first)

Reassignment using "Keyboard Shortcut" system pref ineffective. I use this shortcut probably every day; not happy.

They're not saying you have to have purchased it from iTunes, just that it has to be AVAILABLE in the iTunes store. The popular example out there is that people can't "Like" The Beatles because iTunes doesn't carry them.

"
defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-ping-dropdown 1
defaults write com.apple.iTunes disablePingSidebar 1
To get the arrows back:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-link-arrows -bool TRUE"
the ping was no more, which is good!
But when i instal and older version of itunes, the genius bar was missing too, am guessing that i need to revert doe's terminal command.
Can somebody instruct me how ?
Thanks
Before: alt+clic on arrow to iTunes Store = all the songs by same artist or in same album. Now the arrow links aren't there. Is there a way to obtain same result? I gess no!
September 26 2010 at 10:37 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyping is the only reason i didn't upgrade to iTunes 10, in conjunction with the fact that Apple has lately moved backwards when they "improve" products. Xcode's build page removal (from the all-in-one view) was an atrociously bad move, and the latest xcode beta looks like a steaming pile of crap (aside from the code completion/correction molded from spell-check functionality) AppleTV-2 will be an epic failure (less hard drive space, no external hard drive capability == worse apple product ever, a failure of cube/lisa proportions)
As a user that started his Apple journey with an Apple IIe in his early years of life it saddens me that iTunes is being tained/bloated with a horrid social network virus, farcebook and crapspace are 99.99% useless and have done nothing more than to serve as a narcissistic waste of time! People would be better served in life doing something that is actually productive than wasting their time with that senseless nonsense. ping is endemic of everything that is wrong with these asinine social networks, please let it miserably fail and die a quick excruciating death. (i say excruciating so maybe Apple could learn a lesson from this atrocious misstep)
It was bad enough when I worried if iTunes would break anything that a jailbreak achieved to make their products actualize their potential, now that I am pushed away by a social networking virus I am really starting to question the direction one of my classically favorite companies is moving in. Less focus on juvenile and asinine fads and more focus on innovation please!, thank you.
"iTunes 10.0.1 weighs in at 86.4 MB and also fixes some bugs that have plagued 10.0. "
Downloading it now (on PC with XP) - says its 46.85Mb in size, but then YMMV if you're a Mac or different Windows OS user.
Man, am I ever glad I didn't downgrade to iTunes 10.
