Apple stores pulling SuperDrives, new MacBook Air imminent?
We received a heads-up from an Apple retail insider that Apple Stores are pulling all of the MacBook Air SuperDrives from shelves. These drives are exclusive to the MacBook Air and Mac mini Server, and the removal of the drives could be a sign that the long-awaited refresh of the MacBook Air is imminent. Recent rumors have it that an upcoming "MacBook" with an 11.6" display might be the replacement for the MacBook Air. We had a false alarm when the Apple Online Store was temporarily off-line this morning, and that could have been nothing -- we didn't see any changes -- or work was being done behind the scenes to prepare for an upcoming announcement.

After reading this blog I feel that I have gain a lot of good information regarding the topic which will definitely help me in future. Blogs like these should be really kept updated such as this blog.I personally thank to this blogger for doing such a great work.
I went into an apple store on sunday and couldn't even find a air I had to ask where it was and was shown the back corner of the store, they only had one demo model. I found that very funny as they usually have at least half a table of them. Now I guess I know why.

Pun definitely intended?
It may be that the new 11.6" Macbook will have a super-slim DVD drive built-in...

Do you really think that Apple will drop the MBA's price down to $899 when it could possibly go even lower than that?
Apple has a dearth of really cheap computers (the iPad is the cheapest "computer" in their lineup now if we're counting the iPad as a computer), so I think they could snag another huge portion of the market by making a more budget-minded computer.
But then again, I'm just one guy who'd dearly love to see more budget-minded Apple products, or as you put it above, "A demographic market of one".
Unfortunately, what you fail to see is that Apple is losing a fair amount of ground in the higher education market because Apple's competition are putting out a lot more cheap computers that students, most especially broke college students like myself, are more willing to buy without mortgaging even more of our lives away.
A budget-minded Blu-Ray drive wouldn't hurt the education market, it'd only help (especially since Wal-Mart has a ton load of cheap Blu-Ray movies for $20 or less).

When has Apple ever been budget-minded?
October 12 2010 at 10:58 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAre they discontinuing the Macbook Air in its current iteration then? I am trying to sell my wife's 1st gen Macbook Air, so this is interesting.
October 06 2010 at 2:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySell it now before the new model comes out as that will diminish the value.
Why buy your two year old MBA when I can get a brand new 11.6" MBA for only $899?
"MacRumors is also reporting that supplies of the MacBook Air are getting very thin at Apple Stores"
I see what you did there.
TUAW reports that MacRumors reports that AppleInsider reports that supplies of the MacBook Air are getting very thin at Apple Stores.
Did you see what I did there?
There was one change to the Apple site today. The image used on this page - http://www.apple.com/appletv/#remote - changed from a picture of Remote.app on the iPhone to one that shows Remote.app on the iPad and the iPhone.
Groundbreaking huh?

"You are high as a weather balloon." So, making a logical leap due to Apple doing something totally unexpected makes me as high as a weather balloon?
Either way, apology accepted.
BJ
Where's the logical leap? That Apple put a product together b/c you were ticked about the lack of one? Regardless of how you took the earlier reply, Apple didn't make a product decision based on one persons' feelings, unless that person happens to be Steve Jobs.
If the MBA is redesigned, is it that much of a stretch to think a new SuperDrive is simply also being refreshed, while delivering the same functionality/having the same power needs as the now disappearing drive, to match a possible new MBA?
No, no, no.
Suggesting that Apple would introduce an optical drive designed to attach to the iPad makes you high as a weather balloon.
a) the iPad is a mobile device, without the battery power to juice such a drive
b) the iPad is not HD
c) Apple sells movies through iTunes
d) the iPad is never, never, NEVER going to be promoted by Apple as having a giant thing dangling off the side of it so you can play movies
