Apple 'Back to the Mac' media event on October 20

The word is out: Apple is hosting a media event on Wednesday, October 20th. The invitation features a a big cat -- looks like a lion to us, which means if you had "Mac OS X 10.7 Lion" in the betting pool, congratulations -- peeking out from behind a metallic Apple logo and the phrase, "Back to the Mac." We're going to don our Carnac outfit and predict that Apple will be talking about the next iteration of Mac OS X.
Of course, we'll have full coverage. See you then.

Iâm hoping we get some news not only on some new hardware for the Mac Pro, but some software updates for all the apps in Final Cut studio, especially a much needed update to DVD Studio Pro, then I don't need use the iFunia DVD ripping software and have a hard time. Some of us still author for optical media, not everything can be delivered via the web all the time.
Chance for a native Blue-ray burner Apple?
Ya, I know, I wonât hold my breath!
Still, this is great news & I look forward to see what Cupertino has in store for 2011
given that apple has said over and over that they feel that Blu-ray is a flash in the pan tech, I'd said no, not now, not ever.
Now could they have an ace up their sleeve in the form of some new video codec that allows for true 1080p video with 5.1 (or better) audio without the massive jump in file size. Who knows, perhaps. I'm sure they are working on the issue.
That and the producers putting all extras from the disks into the Apple Extras format and I'm all over it.
In the description on the bottom of the invite, it specifically says "including a sneak peek at the next major version of Mac OS X"
It will not be 10.7, it will be OS XI 11.0 to coincide with 2011. iLife 11 will go with it.
OS IX will support touch screen. Parallels technology will be built in. Windows apps will run in a "native" mode.
Everything will be 64-bit. New iMacs will be announced at the same time, with touch-screen technology, similar to a giant iPad.
OS XI will contain a lot of similarities to IOS and will essentially unify the various OSes. Airplay will tie them all together, and the Mac will take over almost all of your home entertainment requirements. Your broadband connection will replace your cable or satellite.
And there will be one more thing...
Lion and Sabertooth are the only other two cat names that are nice..lol
