Lost in translation: HDMI adapter for iPhone 4 and iPad

Today seems to be a day for news from China, the birthplace of most Apple hardware. This little tidbit of info comes courtesy of Noosy, AKA Shenzhen North Technology Co., Ltd.

The company has developed an HDMI adapter for the iPhone 4, fourth-generation iPod touch, and iPad, so you can now pop the little adapter onto your iDevice and blast video from apps that support video-out to your HDTV.

Details on the adapter are sketchy; the page for the device appears to have been run through Google Translate, with the predictable result of some unintentionally humorous gaffes. There's no price, but at least we can be assured that it supports 720p output, is "easily plus&play," and can display "the MTV."

Unfortunately, there is no pricing information and no clear sign of when this may make it to worldwide distribution. We'll keep an eye open and see what happens, as we too would like to "have so fabulous screen to instead of the 10" iPad screen." As they say, "you never see a HDMI adapter can be elegant like this!!"

Before you start making fun of the language of an entire race of people, why don't you stop and realize that it is the Google translation making the errors... not the original Chinese text. Somehow I expected the editor of a major blog to be wiser than this, and not resort to cheap jokes at a mass number of people's expense... Be a professional Steve.

Hey, why don't you read the post before throwing out the racist tag, Maxats? If you had actually read it before jumping to conclusions, you would have seen this line:

"Details on the adapter are sketchy; the page for the device appears to have been run through Google Translate, with the predictable result of some unintentionally humorous gaffes."

I wouldn't be surprised if these adapters are simply converting the component-signal to HDMI.

They missed out on one thing. A USB port to charge at the same time.
They could have put a mini or micro USB port next to the hdmi port.

I wouldn't touch this with a 10-ft pole.

When I got my iphone 3G I wanted a cable to hook it up to my TV. Apple's cost $50, so I looked around online for a composite cable from china. Bought one for $10, received it, and it worked fine for a week, until the next iPHone OS update, which disabled it. Bought another brand, and the next update did the same thing.

Apparently there is a chip inside these cable connectors that tells the device "it's ok, I'm an authorized cable.", but apple updates the authorization code with each iOS update, so the updated iphone will no longer recognize the chip in the third-party cable.

Don't waste your money.

"i think it is too much for this small peace of plastik."

If you're in the desert, desperate for water, would you scoff at $50 for a bottle of Poland Spring?

Prices are not set by cost of materials, prices are set by supply and demand. If it's not worth the money to you, don't buy it.

It'a amusing that it apparently converts a movie that's been cropped for the iPad's 4:3 ratio, adapting it to the 16:9 ratio of an HD set by stretching it.
