The future of Tweetie and the Mac
A tweet from @MacHeist provides clarification on another tweet from Twitter founder Evan Williams. Williams commented a few days ago that Twitter was not "actively investing" in Tweetie for the Mac at this time.
Williams' tweet caused quite a stir. Since the acquisition of Tweetie for iPhone and the app's conversion into Twitter's official app for iPhone and iPad, the Mac version of Tweetie has collected a good bit of dust and now lacks the up-to-date features found in its mobile siblings.
MacHeist director John
Casasanta was even surprised by Williams' tweet, because he reports being in contact with Tweetie's developer, Loren Brichter. The good news? Tweetie 2 for the Mac is alive and well, even though work has slowed due to the Twitter acquisitions of the mobile products. There's still no word about when it'll be released, but we'll be sure to let you know when it's out.

I love Tweetie but I'm also sick at the lack of updates like proper retweeting...
I love it being too simple yet powerful for just what I need...
But thanks guys, I'll try Echofon for Mac, let's see how it suits me...
Yet another reason why I gladly use Echofon.

You do all realize this is coming from the same guy that hasn't showed customers a single sign of life since Camera+ was removed from the App Store by Apple, right? And now he comments on Tweetie, without mentioning Camera+?
Seriously, you just don't do that. And we'd all be better of if we stopped paying attention to him.
Tweetie 2.0 for mac is the Duke Nukem Forever of Mac Apps. Had i known that Loren was going to sell us out like this I would have gotten this app through the TPB. I do expect if this app gets released that he doesnt charges us one penny for it.

Never did understand the fascination with Tweetie.
Yeah right. This is classic covering for the mess that has existed. Do I blame Loren and the Macheist crew? YES! Do I understand? Yes!
They flat out scammed everyone by selling out to Twitter. By they of course I mean Atebits, not necessarily Macheist. I think Macheist just got caught up in the mess. Loren (Atebits) sold out to the highest bidder, which of course is Twitter and not us purchasers.
This all seems like lousy digging out of a hole. I'll believe Tweetie 2 when I see it. It still doesn't even support proper retweets. They want to say they are actively supporting things like OAuth? Right. They did that, but not the features that make Twitter what it is today.
I have been stuck at 1.2.8 for quite some time now. Tweetie is still my favorite app for Twitter on my mac.
