Scrivener 2.0 public preview now available
The public preview version of Scrivener is free to use until December 7. Any NaNoWriMo participants who achieve their goal of 50,000 words will qualify for a 50 percent discount off of the full version of Scrivener 2.0. Those who do not make the quota can get 20 percent off by using the discount code NANOWRIMO during purchase.
Scrivener 2.0 is US$45 for a regular license and $38.25 for an academic license. A registered owner of Scrivener 1 will be able to update for $25. Those who bought Scrivener on or since August 1, 2010 will be entitled to a free update.
Scrivener 2.0 requires OS X 10.4 or higher and remains a Universal application, but there is some extra functionality with Snow Leopard. The full version is expected to be released a week from today.

@reclark: The public preview does NOT overwrite an existing 1.* version.
The public preview is named Scrivener NaNo 2010 and sits in a folder called ScriNaNoMacPreview. You can have both installed, work with the 2.0 preview to your heart's content and even keep both 1.* and 2.0 if you decide to continue with 2.0.
If you import a project into the 2.0 preview, it will update that project but also make a backup of the version 1 file.
I like the GUI of verson 2 much, much, much better than version 1.
Does the public preview over right your existing 1.** version?

Which do you guys recommend, Storymill or Scrivener 2.0? I know it's a subjective question, but I want to know what to start my NaNo in so that I won't have to switch in the middle.
October 25 2010 at 7:37 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have both and prefer Scrivener... I also have Jers Novel Writer. It has some great tools, too.
But all in all, I like Scrivener the best.
Cheers.
Interesting. I'm retrieving it just to give it a whirl, though my go-to word processor for several years now has been DevonNote, which allows me all kinds of nifty nonlinear compose/edit/organization options.
For iPad, I'm using Notebooks, which dose basically the same thing, but ... on the iPad.
Nonetheless, thanks for the pointer. Those of you gearing up for NaNoWriMo, good luck!
